"Amendment XVI to the Constitution was ratified in 1913"
Over 100 years before that, large incomes were derived from real estate properties (farms and the like). Constitutionally, farm incomes were the way to go for taxes during the founding of our Nation. Afterward, Americans moved away from the agricultural economy and into production of machines, etc., so the government obtained revenues from those sources.
Now corporates, in person (as local NIMBYs) and through their associations (corporations, and their relatives in local governments and public schools), are in the process of hiking property taxes again. And those taxes will continue to go up, until many more people lose their properties. Property taxes in my area have about tripled during the past 10 years, as retiring corporate managers and government workers move in.

I wonder how many of us would be willing to clog the courts and jails by refusing to pay the $1900? How many of us stood up and oppose forced busing of our CHILDREN when IT was imposed?

Its hard to believe the American people voted for oppression. Genesis 3:6-7
6. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

I never quite understood why folks were surprised/upset when bussing started. I mean, you go to a GOVERNMENT SCHOOL and should expect government diktat. In most cases, it was merely bussing folks from one part of the SAME CITY to another.
The biggest hypocrites were the inbred DEMOCRATS of South Boston, many of whom lived in public housing and on food stamps, btw, who had NO problem when the liberal gubmint was benefitting THEM, but all of a sudden went postal when the same government bussed in black kids from another neighborhood only a few miles away.
Government schools mean government RULES.
