Three teenagers were charged Monday in the beating death of a 16-year-old Chicago honor roll student on his way home from school, a melee captured on a cell phone video that shows a group striking him with boards and kicking him as he lay on a sidewalk.
The death of Derrion Albert, a sophomore at Christian Fenger Academy High School, on Thursday has reignited community outrage over chronic violence involving city students and is putting pressure on school and police officials to address gang problems that often are at the root of such violence.
The Chicago public school system is the nation's third-largest and has about 407,000 students in 666 schools. More than 30 students were killed in 2008, according to district figures, and this year's toll could be higher.

The gangs in Chicago would run the Black Panthers and Hell’s Angels out of town in a heartbeat. They are 10 to 100 times as big and have as many killers as they wish ready at the drop of a hat.
Kinda hard to do when Daley believes in allowing only the criminals to carry firearms.
I just can’t wait for all the Mommas slobbering ‘bout their murdering sons: “They be good boys”.
At least we didn’t have to listen to that krap in “the bad old days”.
What sucks about the situation is that the world lost a good one. The media interviewed his grandfather and he seemed to be a great influence on this kid’s successes.
Chicago is really dangerous and corrupt.
The gangs have won the “war on gangs” war.
I don't see any "outrage" in the reactions here. Compare this to the so called "Jena 6 incident" *eyeroll* which got international publicity, tens of thousands of dollars of donations, impassioned speeches from national black "leaders"....for a "bunch of kids" incident in which no black person was even injured, and the worst thing that was done to any of the black students was....the display of a noose.
Meanwhile, the best of black America is murdered in the street by a lynch mob, with absolutely minimal reaction, because the killers were black. Why does the African-American "leadership" in this country hate African-Americans so much?

Can’t be right....all that taxpayer money the Obama’s gave (swindled) that went to improving the schools, hospitals, housing........
I respectfully disagree with you.
If the Olympics are held in Chicago, the Chicago Police will keep everything under control for that period of time.
The word will go out...
Nuke chi town from orbit... it is the only way.

>> The world lost a good kid.
Absolutely. Before I retired from the airlines, one of my copilots was the son of a Caribbean immigrant family living in the slums of NYC. His dad was killed in a horrible industrial accident; his mom worked three jobs to put her kids through college; he got a summer scholarship from the Tuskegee Airmen and got his start in flying; the other kids are also successful.
I once asked him “why haven’t you gone back to your old high school to share what you did?”. “I did, and was publicly humiliated as ‘being too white’ and an ‘a$$kisser of the white man. Once was enough.” Sad.
Is this tied in anyway to the “teabagger” movement or the right wing? I mean, isn’t this fault of something else other than the lifestyles of these “emotional youth”?
It Takes a Village.
>> It Takes a Village.
Yeah, it sure does - and when it happens, look who they interview - some anti-second amendment white bit@h. Where is Tom Sowell? Bill Cosby?
“More than 30 students were killed in 2008”
I find that to be outrageous. How come it took this incident to bring this statistic to light. The parents of the children in the Chicago School system should be storming the offices of those responsible. This is just insane.
Is there any word on the motivation for the murder? The video said he was an honor student.
I know of a girl in my daughter's high school (black girl) who was beaten up by other black kids for "acting white" and "talking like a white girl."
What it is!
