STEPHANOPOULOS: So you fully expect there will be prisoners in Guantanamo after the deadline?
MCCAIN: All I know is, frankly, what I briefed on, and apparently theyre certainly not going to make that deadline. But we should continue to work towards the closure of Guantanamo Bay because of the image that it has in the world of brutality and harms our image very badly.
(snip)
STEPHANOPOULOS: But its going to take more than a decade to succeed, isnt it?
MCCAIN: I think you will see signs of success in a year to 18 months, if we implement the strategy right away.
By the way, I sympathize with the president. The base of his party, the left base of his party, is opposed. This is -- American people are weary of this conflict. And I -- I do have sympathy for the president in making this decision. Its the toughest decision a president has to make, to send people into harms way, but Id remind you throughout history, whether it be Harry Truman or Franklin Delano Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln, leaders have had to make tough choices, and history has judged them very kindly.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Have you spoken directly to the president about your concerns?
MCCAIN: Yesterday.
STEPHANOPOULOS: And what did -- what did you say to him?
MCCAIN: We had a good conversation, as we always do. And I pointed out what -- the point you made earlier, that, in Iraq, the Maliki government was certainly failing. And this -- this election in Afghanistan, it was corrupt. There is corruption from the -- the cop on the beat to -- to the -- to the presidents brother, Karzais brother, and that issue has to be addressed if were going to succeed.

McCain is so senile that he considers both Truman *and* FDR to be "leaders."
I, on the other hand, consider them to be naught but treasonous Rat bastards.

Maybe Juan would let us send the detainees over to his house. He can take care of them. Personally, after 09-11-01, I could give a **** about our “image around the world.” “The world” wasn’t the one who was attacked on their own soil on 09-11-01 and had 4000 of their neighbors and friends brutally murdered in cold blood by a bunch of fanatical Islamofascist terrorists.

That’s right Johnny, “image” is so much more important than security. I think McStain is sucking up for a Czar job.

Apparently it has escaped the senator's notice that, now that Bush has left the scene, nobody cares about Gitmo anymore. It was never more than a fraudulent pseudo-issue with which to beat up Bush.

It was never more than a fraudulent pseudo-issue with which to beat up Bush. And McCain was a willing and pliant tool for leftist Democrats on that issue.

The unspoken reason that Obozo is committed to closing GUITMO is so he can give it back to Fidel.
Seriously this is the REAL reason he wants to close it. There is no other explanation.
I suppose it is Professional Courtesy between Dictators.

One thing is for certain, McCain isn't a strong conservative leader. That being said, there is no need for him to support Obama and try to look nice and friendly big freaking deal! I know McCain hasn't endorsed Obama's worst policy goals like Healthcare or promoting homosexuality through the educational system. McCain didn't vote for Sotomayor's confirmation as a Supreme Court justice, he is against same-sex marriage and he has consistently been strongly pro-life. So there are many policy areas where he is in direct opposition to the worst president in America history Barack Obama.
However, McCain has been whining for years about closing Gitmo and against the so-called torture (one of the many reasons I have a hard time liking him).
I wish and hope he loses a primary challenge in 2010 and ultimately loses his senate seat, and I'm willing to send money to any conservative GOP candidate who runs against him.

I think I’ve told everyone what I think of Truboy.
As to FDR, only a bad mustache, a pair of working legs and the failure of his court packing plan separate him from his Uncle, Joe Stalin.
Well that and a few million corpses to his name.
Huey Long, he would have tried to become a dictator if he ever got elected. I think if he lived though he would have split the leftist vote and allowed RINO Wendell Wilkie to win. (Long planned to run in 1940 not 1936)

Oh and there’s only one way I support closing Gitmo. That’s if all the prisoners are sent to stay with their 44 virgins.

Oops I was wrong about Long’s plan, he wanted to lose the ‘36 rat nod to FDR, start a third party that would nominate someone else and allow the election of a Republican and then get elected as a democrat in 1940.
Very elaborate plan.
