Now I'll admit that Dorota Gawron kicks Paris Hilton's a$$

Is Paris 'Skank' Hilton really the best 'we'(you) can compare to Polands' Dorota Gawron?
I and a lot of other Americans do care what Poland thinks. Nobody has 'too many' friends.

Ah, well that's different, then.
You're a jerk son of a bona fide hero, then.

Can no one admit they were wrong anymore?

Jimmy Carter’s interpreter in Warsaw, Steven Seymour, gained sudden fame when he slipped up while translating a presidential speech in 1977. Carter wanted to say he understood the Polish people’s “desires for the future.” Seymour used a Polish word for desire with sexual connotations, changing the meaning to “lusts for the future.”

In Poland Lech Walesa is famous (notorious) for such language mistakes.

I remember it was in 1994, or so, when Yeltsin came to Warsaw with the official visit. After bilateral talks in the Presidential Palace (then in Belvedere), Yeltsin left Poland for Moscow, while Walesa went to the journalists waiting for him in the Belvedere garden.

And here's a necessary Polish language lesson :-)

In the Polish language the noun “szczyt”(shchyt) means:
1)summit, 2)peak, 3)top
and some nouns form verbs by adding the ending -owac, where the last letter is pronounced very softly,

e.g. mur - murowac (a wall - to raise a wall),
start - startowac (a start - to start), etc.

so, the natural consequence of this rule would be: szczyt - szytowac. Unfortunately, in this PARTICULAR case, the verb “szczytowac” doesn't mean “to summit, to meet at the summit, to negotiate at the highest level”, etc.

It just means - “to have an orgasm”!!!

And Lech Walesa being asked by a Radio journalist about the summit with Boris Yeltsin wanted to say (I'm quoting from my memory) that he and Mr Yeltsin had been “summiting” all day long and the results were very fruitful. Unfortunately, by forming the verb “szczytowac” of the noun “szczyt” he actually said something that could be translated into English ,”I and MrYeltsin have been having an orgasm all day long and the results are very fruitful...”.

Hearing this, all journalists gathered in the Presidential garden burst into laughter. They couldn't stop from laughing for a couple of minutes. The press conference was actually over! :-)
