For reasons best known to himself, David Frum has decided to suppress my side of the debate on his website. Thus my reply to his latest post (which follows below) doesn't appear on his website.
I agree with you David that this dialogue is getting more focused, and I find it much more pleasurable (and hopefully informative) as a result.
There are two issues here. One is a remarkable conservative outburst against the broadcaster Glenn Beck which includes you, Mark Levin and Pete Wehner among others, and which collectively wishes for his early self-destruction. The message from the three of you is that for the good of the conservative cause he should be silent -- and the sooner the better. Wehner expresses the judgment I detect in all three of your blasts in this sentence: The role Glenn Beck is playing is harmful in its totality. (http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/wehner/100152) More than anything else, it is this that I am reacting to. I think this attitude is wrongheaded, absurd, destructive to the conservative cause and a blatant contradiction of the big tent philosophy which you otherwise support.

I am a big tent Republican and also one who believes that it takes many different role players to win political battles.
Basically, you have to win elections-- it's the American way.
Rush, Levin and Hannity figuratively stood outside the houses of the left shouting and carrying signs. Beck was a catalyst for the tea parties and (symbolically) threw a Molotov cocktail through their front window.
I like Beck's approach better, as it has gotten results that none of the others has gotten even though they've been in the business longer. It's about time we had active leadership. Yelling at the left isn't working. They just tell us we're evil and keep at their dirty work.
Frum is not a conservative
So you would see no value to Palin being in the wings or ‘12 or ‘16?
Horowitz is an intellectual and Beck is his populist counterpart. Conservatives, including Freepers, seem to have an instinctive distrust of intellectuals, especially ones with Red Diaper pasts.
I've read about everything Horowitz has written and I agree with you: he's given us a precise outline of the current administration's methods and goals. Anyone who bothers to read his 1998 "The Politics of Bad Faith" will understand exactly what Obama's puppet-handlers are up to. Unfortunately, not enough of us have bothered.
The first time I ever heard Mark Levin, it was an audio clip of him and Sean Hannity calling in to a radio show that had Alec Baldwin as a guest. Now I can’t stand Alec Baldwin, but the Hannity/Levin ambush was one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever heard from supposed conservatives. As they both attacked Baldwin for being overweight and having marital problems, I was taken aback by the pathetic childishness of the two, particularly Levin, who Baldwin accurately characterized as Hannity’s “toadie”. It took me a long time to come around to liking Mark Levin again; but his petty, jealousy-ridden animosity towards Glenn Beck is the final straw. In my eyes Mark Levin is simply “The Toadie”.
Well, as I said, Obama is a Communist/Muslim America hater who would destroy the country on purpose.
McCain is just an incredibly stupid jerk, who would do incredible damage by accident.
I was only kidding and agree with your point. (However I can’t remember last time Rush man was wrong.)
LOL. That sums him up perfectly.
I wouldn’t think Levin would stoop to that.
What would have been the first move of his administration is well known—Sarah Palin sworn in as VP; anyone who thinks that wouldn’t be the herald of a much different Washington than the one we have now is just being nihilistic.
I heard Beck trashing the whole republican party for 15 min on his show the other day. That is ridiculous and a slap to the conservatives that are working hard to take the party back from the elitist. Beck is constantly attaching every positive movement to himself. I see him as a self promoter. How about giving credit to Andrew Breitbart for the Acorn uncovering?
As for the 912 rally. He quickly adopted it as his own also. Funny, I once heard him say he would not attend as he was fearful someone would do or say something silly and he would be attached to it. I was there along with my wife. I can attribute it to Mark Levin for motivating me to get involved. Levin has convictions and foresight, Beck seems to wonder in this or that direction from day to day. Also, I see no mention in the posts above of all the hard work Mark’s Landmark Legal Foundation has done for our cause over the many years.
I’ve figured out Levin’s attacks on Glenn. He’s really, really, upset that obama won (stole) this election and how our freedoms are being taken away on a daily basis by this administration.
And, Glenn has used quotes from Mark’s book without giving him proper credit. This amounts to plagarism, and Mark hasn’t sued - which he could easily do.
Mark openly thanked Glenn one night on his show for mentioning his book, and has openly blasted McCain on the air for some of the stupid things he’s said and done.
Since Sean and Mark are good friends, I’m assuming Hannity knows a little more about what goes on behind the scenes than most of us do.
I like and listen to all of them, and refuse to take sides. To do so, would put me in the category of following a personality, and I refuse to become like the obamabots.
Sean does have a tendency to repeat things too much, but, for those who haven’t heard these things, it hammers the point home. Sean did some great work before the election on obama’s past. To be honest, I actually hate the “Great American Panel.” I wish he’d do away with this segment of his show. It reminds me of the women on “The View.” Everyone talking over the others. It’s totally annoying. But, I do watch his program and like Sean.
Beck has to be the crazy one - it’s his niche, but, he has some good programs as well. I don’t like his radio program, so I don’t listen to it very often.
Why is Frum thought of as being a conservative?
exactly, Beck has had a good run for 3 months on mostly the content of Mark’s book. I listen to both and I know exactly why Mark is pi**ed. Beck has not so much as acknowledged Mark’s existence, except once heard him say about Mark’s book. “I’ve heard good things about it”. I’m sure Levin was spitting fire, knowing the the content of Becks shows come from chapters of his book. His plagiarism of Levin has really turned me off to him.
The VP has just as much power as a president is willing to allow.
I was very worried that Governor Palin would be harmed by the connection to a McCain administration.
That said, I was able to cast my vote by focusing on the Palin portion of the ballot.
Like David Horiwitz has said. Levin is just being worse than a liberal. David has never accussed Levin of stealing his ideas which has done, but has been supportive in his cause. Levin on the other seeks destroy the most effective conservative messenger since Rush.
And more to the point, Beck’s ideas are totally different from Levin’s.
Are you saying that Levin feels that both parties are corrupt? Beck has made that case. Levin has not.
Are you saying that Levin discussed Acorn in his books? He has not. Beck has discussed this at length in his books and his shows.
Levin, is just green eyed jealous. The only thing I have seen similar is sometimes they have used similar jokes. Beck mentioned invited the Iranians to 4th July parties with Hebrew National hot dogs. Levin made the same joke. Is that stealing?
Well, Rush Limbaugh made that joke too. So is Levin stealing from Rush?
Levin’s argument is crap and he has permeneantly damages his reputation. I am glad that Beck has permeantly pushed him and his 9PM’er friend down the totem. It’s Rush number 1 and Beck number 2!!!!
A great book. Reading Radical Son should be a requirement for membership in Free Republic. It is that good. Great insight into the liberal mind from a great conservative.
