Why doesn't Obama just dispel any and ALL doubt about his eligibility and release his documents? It's a very simple solution to a growing problem, as more and more people become aware of his reluctance to do so. IF he has nothing to hide, why wouldn't he? Wouldn't you? Wouldn't anybody? Unless, of course, there IS something damaging and/or disqualifying there to be exposed. That would be my conclusion and the conclusion of any logical, 'thinking' person (yourself and other lefties excluded).

I can guess at his reasons but why not ask him for yourself? However, I don't imagine he's overly concerned that you doubt his eligibility so I don't think he'll grant your request.

Consider, Obama does not personally benefit from showing it. And he (currently) personally benefits from concealing it.
Simply put, there is little reason for him to do anything at all to assuage the doubts of people who did not and will not support him or his agenda. Especially if the situation is leading some proponents of ‘Birtherism’ to concoct wild fantasies involving the CIA and The Ford Foundation. He’s just not going to release personal information to assuage political adversaries and try to prevent them from acting goofy about it.
Besides, it really wouldn’t settle much. You can see from the posts on this thread that several people are already convinced there is a grand conspiracy involved here. Others have made it clear that they won’t accept any information that lends any legitimacy to BHO. Confirmation bias is the rule here, it seems.
And, there are still the rational minds who debate the sole legitimate issue: does a child born on American soil to an American mother and non-resident alien father qualify as a ‘Natural Born Citizen’ under the US Constitution. That won’t be settled without a long judicial process and really, that boat has already sailed.
Speculation:
For all I know they are waiting for the next election cycle hoping that this BC thing gets legs, then they’ll trot out the formal and certified documents in the weeks before the 2010 elections. The MSM will crow about what a bunch of dummies all those conservatives are, etc. You get the idea.
It would result in at least a modest loss in credibility by the Republicans if only through implied guilt by association.
Then if further, more legitimate, issues are brought up the administration has a good hill to fight from. It would then be much easier for them to dismiss claims or accusations regarding BHO’s life as just another baseless fishing expedition like that whole BC thing.
But that assumes there is not anything sufficiently embarrassing on the BC.
