So what does that make me? Someone who rejects hard scientific evidence that contrasts with his personal beliefs, or someone who studies all possibilities closely and waits until there is a definitive answer before coming to a conclusion? I won't be the first to submit that people who embrace a concept without evidence becuase it postulates that man is bad and demands that we do a better job of cleaning up after ourselves are the true religious fanatics.
Last time I was in the methodist church of my youth, I could have sworn it was a temple of Gaia. I know why my grandmother quit and decided she could worship from home.
“About half (48%) of white mainline Protestants believe the earth is warming as the result of human activity — roughly the same proportion as among all Americans (47%) —”
Just another example that 45-50% of Americans are intellectually lazy(ignorant) or stupid.
A man who ceases to believe in God does not believe in nothing; he believes in anything.
- G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
I agree — the summary you posted seems to allow for only two scenarios:
(1) Earth is warming, and it is warming because of human activity
(2) Earth is not warming.
I believe
(3) Earth *was* warming due to sun spot cycles, and is now cooling for the same reason.
Stupid polls Dot COM
I don’t doubt climate change. That’s what the climate does. What I do doubt is the effect the warming alarmists claim we’re having.
The global warming alarmists should move to the moon. The climate never changes there.
There is a maxim in science that says
“correlation does not equal causation.”
Many scientists seem to have forgotten this. Just because CO2 levels are fluctuating along with industrial growth doesn’t mean that humanity is the cause. The Earth’s climate is incredibly tough and has resisted natural CO2 outputs that dwarf anything that humanity could ever produce. There was even a volcano that covered the whole planet in ash!
In a related story, Kool Aid sales have gone through the roof.
If CO2 was as much of a driver of global temperature as the fear-mongers would have us believe, the earth’s temperature would have sky-rocketed out of control billions of years ago. There is no way it is nearly as a significant factor as the global warming models assume. It is probably that it is a factor, but it is absolutely impossible that it is that significant. It is now becoming an undeniable fact that sun spot activity is a much larger driver than believed. Global Warming models pretty much ignore sun spots completely, when in fact they have a much great influence than CO2. I don’t believe an honest scientist can buy into the global warming theory as currently being propagated.
How many are willing to sacrifice American jobs on the alter of “global warming” as China, India and other countries completely ignore the issue, and continue to promote THEIR industry, at the expense of the United States?
How many support higher taxes on American families, as a way to address this issue?
100% of people capable of rational thought agree that the earth has been cooling for a decade and that all the AGW computer models have failed miserably.
Also, Ice Core samples show that increased CO2 levels in the past have followed increases in temperature, not the other way around.
What are you talking about? That had nothing to do with my post.
Perhaps you did. I'm not here to browbeat you. You've learned how to correctly disregard unscientific polls when they disagree with the facts. If you can do the same thing when they support your opinions, I'll consider my work done here.
I can’t believe that you are dragging old business to this thread. You said that you didn’t ask What the heck is wrong with Protestants for being so susceptible to the latest propaganda from the socialist-pagan-pseudoscientific alliance? Well how could you?
When you add up Protestants and Catholics, Protestants still come out as more conservative on this question, so the question would be What the heck is wrong with Catholics for being so susceptible to the latest propaganda from the socialist-pagan-pseudoscientific alliance?.
Look at the chart and then combine percentages and then try to imagine if we add Hispanics.
You came into my life, and continued to argue the same incorrect point for three weeks. In the fase of irrefutable evidence to the contrary. Supported entirely by data from MSNBC. When you went away, I had a headache, and I felt like a small chunk of my life had been stolen from me, never to return. I hoped you were going away forever, but here you are back again. Posting to me, and barging into my life.
My point remains that virtually all of these polls are meaningless and unscientific, as it is impossible to phrase questions like this properly. I had hoped by your initial response that you had finally grasped this concept, but alas it appears that you still allow your personal intolerance for other religions to cloud your views. You couldn’t help yourself.
The fact that I avoided making an observation about any specific religious group based on the bogus results of this poll was an indication of how meaningless they are. It offers four possibilies for a postive answer, but only one (definitive) “no” answer. I could care less if Protestants believe in Global Warming more or less than Catholics. Or Jews. Or Muslims. Or Buddists. Or Jedis for that matter. But you’re enough of a creep that you couldn’t help yourself. For you, everything is about categorizing your own beliefs against those of others: “There is a higher percentage of adulterers among Catholics than in my own religion. Therefore...”
I’ve got news for you: God could care less about things like this. He’s got bigger fish to fry.
Unfortunately, in this case, you were so quick to attack Catholicism that you got your facts wrong: The answers of “Catholics” and “Protestants” are statistically the same. And that’s disregarding the fact that we established earlier: It is totally impossible for a pollster to differentiate actual Catholics from non-Catholics who claim to be Catholic (as this poll is trying to do). Or were you just defending Evangelicals?
You need to get something through your head: Not everbody thinks like you. Two of my four grandparents were Protestant. On was Lutheran, one was Presbyterian. The were both active in their churches. They were both politically conservative, and strong Christians. I have nothing against any other faith. Even yours. Tearing down another’s faith won’t make my own stronger. Some day you’ll figure that one out. Actual Catholics, the ones who except the totality of Church teaching (including the parts about abortion) are almost exclusively Conservative.
No they aren't, the deep conservatism of the white Evangelicals and in this case the black Protestants make up for the four point difference between the White Catholics and the White mainline Protestants, and they don't even mention Hispanics.
