I think this “the people aren’t ready for this so we have to lie about it” thing has become a standard excuse for a lot of things among leftists. It has become so bad that you can’t trust any of them anymore. You never know if they aren’t lying about their beliefs because they think you’re “not yet ready” for the truth…
It was in the early 90s in ultra liberal Eugene, OR - some ballot measure from Lon Mabon, can’t remember, probably against teaching little kids how to practice sodomy or something. I didn’t even know these people - lived down the block. They were outraged because I look “alternative” and sold handmade craft stuff at the Saturday Market. No one who “lookded like me” could be conservative! Ha!
