US President Barack Obama is to call for an end to nuclear arms and efforts to stop the spread of the technology behind them, at an historic UN session.
In the first security council meeting chaired by the US, Mr Obama will present a resolution seeking "a world without nuclear weapons".
The meeting comes a day after Mr Obama's debut UN speech, in which he warned of a nuclear arms race.
It also comes amid growing concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The draft resolution reaffirms the council's commitment "to seek a safer world for all and to create the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons," the Associated Press reported.
It does not specifically mention countries by name, such as North Korea and Iran, but reaffirms previous Security Council resolutions relating to their nuclear plans.
Iran's nuclear program has been criticized by the US and five nations who are set to hold talks next week.
Iran says its nuclear ambitions are for peaceful energy purposes, but others fear it is developing weapons.

The hunt for Obama’s senior “thesis” began with a throwaway line in a newspaper article last October. The New York Times story, on Obama’s early New York years, mentioned in passing that the presidential contender had majored in political science at Columbia and had spent his time “writing his thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament.”
Journalists began hounding Columbia University for copies of the musty document. Conservative bloggers began wondering if the young Obama had written a no-nukes screed that he might come to regret. And David Bossie, the former congressional investigator and “right-wing hit man,” as one newspaper described him, took out classified newspaper ads in Columbia University’s newspaper and the Chicago Tribune in March searching for the term paper.
Bossie came up dry, but said the effort was well worth it:
“A thesis entitled Soviet Nuclear Disarmament, written at the height of The Cold War in 1983, might shed some light upon what Barack Obama thought about our most pressing foreign policy issue for 40-plus years (U.S.-Soviet Relations),” he wrote in an e-mail to NBC News.

The NWO plan is to disarm all the nations and arm the U.N. or whatever agency will govern the world “village”. That way they’ll have the clout to order all the nations to do their will.
It seems like we’re far away from that point in time, yet I’m being surprised more and more often lately with the swiftness of the movement of events.
I don’t believe Obama is being naive here. It is deliberate.
