From my understanding there is no case here. The only law busted was them recording sound without the other party being aware. Shucks, that’s a given. So they plead guilty to that charge. What’s the penalty? $500 and court costs?

Andrew and his lawyers know this.

ACORN really must be run by a moronic bunch of loons if they believe the recording issue somehow trumps the discovery of their employees providing information on how to skirt the law while they are receiving federal funding.

At that, that is a Maryland criminal statute. The perp would have to be indicted and tried by the State of Maryland in a criminal case. ACORN filed a civil suit, likely because the DA wouldn't bite.

The same statute was at play in the affair Lewinsky. Linda Tripp was indicted, but the case was later dropped. The statute specifies "interception" of communication without permission, a.k.a. wiretapping.
