Reliable sources report that there will be a press conference at NASA HQ at 2:00 pm this Thursday featuring lunar scientist Carle Pieters from Brown University.
The topic of the press briefing will be a paper that will appear in this week's issue of Science magazine wherein results from the Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) aboard Chandrayaan-1 will be revealed.
The take home message: there is a lot of water on the Moon.
Stay tuned.
I guess a lot of people will be like .... wow
Hokey smokes, you're right! Vent it out the rear of the suit and add a little piezo-electric igniter and if you're not careful you could reach escape velocity. All right, I'm off to the patent office.
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
My brains and our drinking.........
Blue Mars tells us all we have to do there...
Not yet... Let me throw a couple of chunks of lunar ice in my moon margarita and when it melts, there will be water on the moon.
I agree. Let us spend a trillion on unnecessary health care instead. Besides, we all know the moon is flat, and the astronauts will just sail off the edge looking for that non-existent ice.
LEMONADE STANDS!
Dr Gerald O'Neill who formulated these plans as a Physics Professor at Princeton along with Werhner von Braun knew that the space program could be self funding and provide a profit to boot.
The return on investment, (ROI) for the average company is 10 to 15%. The ROI on the Apollo Program is closer to 700%. Own a computer? Owne a satelite TV receiver? Own a cell phone? Own a GPS receiver? All came from Apollo era inventions and created millions of jobs and incresed our GDP significantly.
Go Into Space? You Betcha!!!!!!
"Why the hell didn't our ancestors mine that f'ing thing, make a few bucks, and build something other than this stupid hut city for us to live in?"
2020 Is a Go. In 4 years we will have a new CEO to lead us to scientific prosperity.
Helium?? I live out here on a sea of helium. The government shut it down because we don’t do Blimps anymore but you want helium , just go to the Texas Panhandle. With all due respect , the Flash Gordon stuff is a pipe dream. The only thing we actually got out of the space program (don’t give me that computer lie) was Tang and nobody drinks it anymore.
Pass on that one bud. Whoever controls that effectively controls a gigawatt to terawatt maser cannon.
Besides .... just ship the He3 back to earth (mass driver and iron reentry shell) and build the reactors here.

There’s a ton of Helium3 in the Texas Panhandle? Or is it that you don’t know what you’re talking about?
NASA indeed needs a kick in the pants and a major, MAJOR audit. At the VERY least, they need to kick out the Man-Made Global Warming BS Artists like James Hanson.
But NASA’s basic mission of exploration & discovery is indeed a sound and necessary one.
They should spend hundreds of billions on NASA, because at least congress wouldn’t have as much money to spend on all of their nefarious schemes if they did that.
NASA’s just a bit player anyway, a rounding error in the budget. Might as well get some fireworks shows for our money.
Is it true that after a 1 billion dollar effort that the Hubble Telescope was NOT repaired? YES. That thing is still broken. They could not twist the nut off the bolt!! absolute fact. They covered it up with total BS but the radio telescope will never work again!! This was after they launched the pile of junk into space and the lens would not focus!! Remember that fiasco? Shut this disaster down.
Kinda funny timing, what with the Obama administration showing so much skepticism about another moon mission and all.
Lunar Beer, I like a person whose priorities are in order.
Seriously, if this is true, the race is ON!
