Poland and the Czech Republic, which only shed Moscow's yoke 20 years ago, had hoped that the missile shield would provide tangible, if symbolic, evidence of the United States' commitment to their interests and the defence of the region.
Now deprived of that, many in Central Europe fear that Russia's influence in the region will go unchecked. This has rekindled latent fears across Central Europe that its security has been sacrificed at the altar of great power politics.

Bump.
Maybe you'll learn next time to keep your opinions to yourself where it comes to Presidential elections. We certainly don't care who you elect.
The pro-American Poles have been betrayed and the anti-American Poles are delighted.
Meanwhile you’re foccussed on the important point:- moaning about some lefty media poll from before the Election, using it as an excuse to detach from the allies America still has.
Please take your morose defeatism elsewhere.
We are really sorry.
We didn't vote for him.
Sincerely,
Real America

To our friends and allies in Poland, I hope we throw our current leadership out starting in 2010. However, you are far more familliar with marxists than we are. So best be ready in case we fail to get rid of them for a while.
The new Japanese government want to halve our troops in Okinawa.
Let's send 20 thousand to bases in Poland and Czech and stick it in the eye of Russia.
Yeah, yeah, I know, this is the administration of Zer0, and he has no clue what to do. Maybe he could send some eight track tapes to Putin to make nicey, nice!
Reality check: What Poland and the Czech Republic are miffed about is that they now won’t profit from US military installations in their countries. And that’s ALL there’s to it. Spare me the ‘global security’ rethoric, please.
You misunderstand my point.
1) Pres. Bush signs an agreement with Poland to provide a missile defense shield, recognizing Poland as a valuable ally in the War on Terrorism. Yet, allegedly two-thirds of the Polish respondents indicated they preferred the naive pacifist Obama. Either that's a serious contradiction, or too many people around the world now see the U.S. Presidency in the terms of 'American Idol.'
2) Having voted for the losing candidate last November, I can empathize with the pro-American Poles in being betrayed by Obama vs. the delight of hopey-changey anti-American Poles who see no value in learning from history. The schadenfrade-barb is directed at the anti-American Poles for allowing their personal dislike of George Bush to cloud their judgment of Obama.
3) My sarcasm could plausibly be interpreted as "moaning", but only because I loathe foreign polls asking an irrelevant question of "Who would you vote for" purely as a means of attempting to influence another nation's electoral process. I actually respect Poland for its independent spirit; I'd much rather detach this country from Obama than Poland. Poland, I can depend on to 'have my back'. Obama is the Presidential equivalent of a fast-food Happy Meal.
4) 'Morose defeatism'? Not really. Actually, I'm encouraged at the rapid fall of Obama; it helps reinforce my religious faith. Any tinge of morose defeatism would be in the possibility of one of our few & cherished allies such as Poland being sacrificed by this naive clown. The most terrible of consequences would be if Poland were ever to transform from a noble ally into an angry enemy.
Cheers.
