Dr. Jack Kevorkian, once dubbed Dr. Death for helping more than 130 terminally ill patients commit suicide, arrived at Kutztown University Sunday afternoon still defiant of critics who would call him a killer.
Two years after being paroled for a murder conviction related to one of those physician assisted suicides, Kevorkian said his goal was to do what was in the best interest of the patient, and sometimes, that meant dying.
"I am a physician, and I did what physicians do: help patients who are suffering," Kevorkian, 81, said at a news conference preceding a 7 p.m. talk as part of the university's Distinguished Speaker Series on Law and Justice.
Still, he said, he probably turned down four of every five people in the 1990s who sought his help. He would screen those people through a psychiatrist and make sure they had the latest treatments before considering suicide.

I can just see getting advice from ACORN on how to procure a home loan:
“On you tax forms don’t list your profession as killer; refer to yourself as a ‘performance artist’ . . .”
The mind boggles. Just exactly why hasn’t Obama made this man the Surgeon General? It would tie in perfectly to his health care “reform”.
There is a reason for the lid on Bummer’s mad proposals. This reason is otherwise known as “Sarah Palin.”
Oh! What have we become? One of the rare times I stopped off for a beer before going home in the 90s I happened to choose the evening that one of Kevorkian's murders was shown on broadcast TV. He is a performance artist in Clinton/Obama America. Sigh.
Will Dr. K. be the new senior citizen health care czar?
On you tax forms dont list your profession as killer; refer to yourself as a reproductive health services provider . . .
LOL. Well, it would certainly solve the social security problem.
“Distinguished Speakers Series”?!?! Josef Mengele, call your agent!
LOL, again.
He’s a killer.
I have heard that Kevorkian fears death for some reason.
Kutztown University? I’m sorry. Did I wake up in the middle of an episode of The Simpsons?
KU sure isn’t Kutztown in my vocabulary either. Now KSTC , that’s Kutztown. (By the way what happens when Boston College decides to upgrade its moniker? There’s already Boston University, a different institution, so what’s it going to be, Boston College University?)
Who freaking cares? You might endure less of an assault on your intellect at Kutztown. And even less, perhaps, by living in The Simpsons.
What on earth could the Finest Orator we have ever had in the oval office, the Messiah, the Giver of Hope and Change, have to fear from some “corrupt, ditzy former beauty queen”?
The SRM are going down, “big time”. It’s just a matter of time. Maybe this latest ACORN business that they suppressed will do it. Certainly their ratings are in the tank.
Let’s see. Rush Limbaugh respects Governor Palin on his show and he posts record ratings. The SRM disses her and many newspapers including the NYT are on the verge of bankruptcy. So, who do you trust?
I feel more optimistic this weekend than I have in a long time.
