ACORN's top officer said Sunday that she was "outraged" by the content of hidden-camera videotapes showing her organization's employees offering advice to undercover filmmakers posing as a pimp and prostitute, as she pledged to "reform" the inner workings of the activist group.
Chief organizer Bertha Lewis tried to calm a growing firestorm over the behavior of her group's employees. Allegations of voter registration fraud and other ethical lapses have plagued ACORN for years, but the videotapes were the last straw for the group's critics -- as well as its long-time defenders.
The videotapes, filmed by two conservative activists, led to both the House and Senate voting to de-fund ACORN last week. Many Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the measures.
[snip] "Internally, let's have some reform," Lewis said. "It's indefensible what I saw (in the tapes)."
[snip] President Obama, in an interview broadcast Sunday, also said he favors an investigation into ACORN. At the same time, he played down the controversy, saying it is not the "biggest issue facing the country."

Yes...they were sooooo upset at their employees, the first thing they did was to file charges against the two interns and started lying about them.
Holy Cow—just watched the Wallace interview. That woman had a script and she wasn’t about to deviate!
Even if we take her at her word—a difficult exercise to be sure, but let’s try—ACORN has by her own admission spent the past 39 years breaking laws six ways from Sunday using tax dollars. I frankly don’t give a rat’s behind what “reforms” she’s implementing. Any organization with 39 years of lawbreaking must be obliterated and the criminals charged, tried and imprisoned.
The rote “I-serve-the-poor” nonsense is nothing more than a pitifully thin excuse for allowing continued criminal activity.
Oh, and when presented with her own words she flatly denied having spoken it.
I couldn’t put up that kind of deceitful performance.
The arrogant bitch just made her responses to Chris only. She also never answered the questions. Just kept invoking all the poor people and houses they have to keep saving. It's all total bullshit, they are going down, and she knows it.
And could she have possibily changed out of her pajamas for the show?
Disagree. ACORN is toast. The underage sex slave thing is still indefensible. (In America. In Belgium amd the EU it is apparently considered quite normal.)
I expect ACORN will shift its resources and funding to other groups that don't have a tainted name. Why should "progressives" try to defend an organization for something indefensible when they can continue their activities without breaking stride simply by changing the name under which those activities are conducted?
is this why we pay taxes...so some mafia organization can have our money....time to tell the government no more....we already have lending for poor whey do we need to give them our money to harbour drug and flesh dealers and rig elections.
our own government thinks the constitution is a joke and something to be ignored.
"I am shocked, SHOCKED to lear that there is gambling going on." Insert Claud Reins photo here!
Is it online?
He’s probably thinking “What idiots. They should at least check up on people to make sure they are legit pimps and hookers before offering to help.”
I vaguely remember that they changed their name already - within the last year or so...?
I remain astonished by the way this canard goes unchallenged. By their own admission (from Alinsky to ACORN) community organizers aren't there to help the poor better their lives.
Their admitted goal is to organize and exploit the poor to gain political power. In fact, the methods they use are more likely to perpetuate poverty, and thus their power base, than to help individuals and families climb out of poverty, whereupon the "community organizers" would no longer be needed.
Careful—you’re getting too close to reality for the likes of Bertha. She might get upset and threaten to sue.
Paraphrasing: She talked about being accountable to her board members YET she recently said this about the “dissident” (those who dared to question her?) members:
John Fund WSJ:
Last August two of Acorn’s eight dissident board members, Marcel Reed and Karen Inman, filed suit demanding access to financial records of Citizens Consulting Inc., the umbrella group through which most of Acorn’s money flows. Ms. Inman told a news conference this month Mr. Rathke still exercises power over CCI and Acorn against the board’s wishes.
Bertha Lewis, the interim head of Acorn, told me Mr. Rathke has no ties to Acorn and that the dissident board members were “obsessed” and “confused.”

If I was the interviewer the only question I would ask is “Why do you hate whitey?”.
Yes, Acorn is now known as COI “Community Organizing International”.
Madame, I am outraged that your organized interstate criminal mafia remains outside of prison. I am also outraged that the state and federal politicians that have knowingly given our tax dollars to your corrupt organization remain outside of prison.
The FBI needs to open a RICO investigation of the corrupt marriage of ACORN and the federal mafia of the United States right now.
ACORN is outraged at FOX News for being exposed as the corrupt criminal enterprise that it is.
All republican candidates have to do is run endless TV commercials spotlighting democrat involvement with ACORN and their many illegal activities and not one single democrat will get elected unless they live in an extremely heavily democratic district. But if the race is close or near a tie such TV ads could swing it for the conservative or republican candidate. Yowzah!
Don’t forget “We knew what they were doing and just played along.”
