America, are you ready for Rush Limbaugh in an electric car?
The conservative talk show host has agreed to take Jay Leno's "Green Car Challenge."
In the segment airing next Thursday on NBC's "Jay Leno Show," Limbaugh will race an electric Ford Focus around a custom-built track beside Leno's studio, the show's representative confirmed.
The "Green Car Challenge" segment makes its debut on the primetime show tomorrow night. Celebrities who participate drive two times around the twisty track, which takes a little less than a minute to complete.
By the time Rush gets behind the wheel of the zero-emission vehicle, Bob Costas, Al Michaels and Drew Barrymore will have set times to beat.
Limbaugh is not a fan of hybrid and electric cars. Last March he criticized such vehicles -- including Ford's.
"Nobody's buying 'em. Nobody wants them. The manufacturers are making them in droves to satisfy Obama. ... People are going to buy [hybrids] because Obama's going to see to it the price [of gas] gets back up to four bucks, since that is the tipping point Ford and Toyota are manufacturing all kinds of new hybrids to keep politicians happy. Politics. You want to know what killed the auto industry? Politics.
Leno has been interested in getting more newsmakers on his new program than on "The Tonight Show." On his second night he welcomed Michael Moore into the studio.
The advertiser-friendly "Green Car Challenges" allows NBC to work product sponsorship into the program, though some critics have wondered whether the segment will also be entertaining.
I just looked up a 2007 Honda Accord V6 (non-hybrid) with a similar trim level. It was about $1500 less than the hybrid version.
Even if Rush is not used to driving, he will probably perform better than Wolf Blitzer did on Jeopardy!
Somewhere this morning they showed the clip of Drew Barrymore right before trying out the track saying she “didn’t really have a driver’s license right now” lol.
Electric cars are hardly zero emission. They have to be recharged and that electricity is most likely coming from a coal fired plant. The batteries and electric motors for these electric cars use toxic and rare earth materials in their manufacture and also have to eventually be disposed or recycled neither of which are emission free processes.
“And my point is that you shouldnt dismiss new technology without trying it out.”
That’s not technology,it’s crap on tires!
Undoubtedly it's GE, parent company of NBC, pushing for everyone to drive this crap. Part of their push for "cap and trade" so GE can make a mint off of us.
I'd wager few of his viewers (sheeple) know he collects cars and Harleys.I guess his viewers never watch the end of Leno's shows where they suggest the viewers visit Jays Garage or hear him and his guests talk about them then.
A diesel-electric hybrid powertrain would be fantastic. They're called locomotives...been around since the 1930's
and submarines have been around even longer than that.
yes, but the free market has not been so free in regards to vehicle energy and thus the options that we end up having for our cars....mainly one! That’s not a free market and has been minipulated this way both by government which gets huge tax revenue from gasoline sales and the auto and oil companies with the internal combustion engine always breaking down and needing alot of parts and alot of gas. THe electric car is by far the better and much cheaper way to go and we have quick charging station doable for 15 minute charges for another 100 miles of driving. The problem has been that the dealership make alot of their profits on maintenance and those will be largely gone with the electric cars and hybrid plug ins. So the auto industry is paying a huge price now in large for holding back the very best product from the consumer. It serves them right and now things are finally changing. Rush is just wrong on this one just like he is wrong on promoting a filthy and actually dangerous habit of cigar smoking. Bless his heart, but sometimes he just is wrong and a bit hyper too!
Your post sounds like ALGORE’s EFFING STUPID MOVIE.. everything you’ve said is a LIBERAL TALKING POINT..
And if you don’t like CIGARS ...TUFF!!!!
Go Back to your KOS or DU Masters and let them know how “YOU TOLD US!!!””
Fred and Barney were ahead of their time.
Yes! My husband and I watch that show. Those guys are hilarious!
Agreed. We should be pursuing pebble bed technology full speed.
Instead, we tilt at windmills.
o boy...talk about reactionary. Those are some facts that I wrote...the car makers would admitt to them I am sure. And electric vehicles were rampant in the early 1900th century because they are simply superior and have quicker speed to due to very little lose of energy comparded to the internal combustion engine. And I am about as right wing as they come...so do us all a favor and take a chill pill, check out www.fhu.com for a great be still silent prayer and relax! Good God!
If they were so great ... where are they now... if they were Marketable.. they still be here.. but NO..
you may be right wing.. but you’re CRAZY!! or you know nothing of economics... as for your CHILL ...EFF YOU and your MASTER.
well there are several electric car companies beginning to take off including phoenix in ontario ca. But you don’t care you are pleased and feeling strong being angry at me . O well...
Bingo! It's called "freedom of choice." Something the government is taking away from us every day.
It's a pitifull shame this is not apparent to fellow FReepers.
If some people want to drive boring, little, cookie-cutter, econoboxes; that's fine with me. I want the freedom to buy and drive Corvettes and Lincoln Town cars.
So the auto industry is paying a huge price now in large for holding back the very best product from the consumer. It is posts like this that just defy ... logic, reason, rationality, even some elements of physics that there is nothing left to say ...
just alittle research would show you that I am correct. They had thousands of customers on a eaiting list in the 90’s for the electric cars that gm and toyota were selling. Problem was that they are so maintemance free that their dealership would make very little residual income as with the regular gas cars. They saw that and made an economic decision to junk all of rhe sold ones which were all leased out and stopped production. These are facts...do a little researchbbefore you judge me. Now we have come full circle with the latest huge spike in gas prices largely thabks to the muslim oil producers. The car makers see the future is in hydrogen and electric.
just alittle research would show you that I am correct.Right.
No doubt ...
