September 17, 2009: Rush Limbaugh has donated $500,000 to the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles in memory of Antonio De la Cruz, MD, who treated Limbaugh beginning in 2001 for the sudden hearing loss due to auto-immune inner ear disease.
Limbaugh ultimately had a cochlear implant to restore his hearing and told the Los Angeles Times recently , "Dr. De la Cruz literally saved my career and got me my life back with that surgery. I wouldn't have been able to continue my career For a month before I had the implant surgery, I did my show totally deaf."
De la Cruz died on July 31 of lymphoma at age 65.
House Ear Institute CEO Jim Boswell said, "Rush Limbaugh's gift is a testament to the care and treatment Dr. De la Cruz showed to all of his patients In honor of Dr. De la Cruz's memory, we are pleased to accept the donation to continue the research and education that meant so much to him during his 35 years as a physician at the House Clinic and director of education at the institute."
I’m surprised the left-wing moonbats haven’t attacked this office and the man for fixing Rush.
Good for Rush! I was so glad when he got the implant.
And gee ... Rush didn't need a government mandate to do it, wow. Imagine. [/s]
Thank you, Rush!
It’s sad that the dangers of painkiller abuse are not more widely known.
A terrific donation from Rush — and I’m sure it will not be his last.
Good for him and thanks to the doctor who restored his ‘hearing.’
Article of interest to you IMPR!
I hope and wish Dr. De la Cruz was made aware of this before he passed on.
Thank you, Rush.
“Dr. De la Cruz literally saved my career and got me my life back”
Good for Rush. Now that the word is out the good Dr. had better watch his back.
Do you think he is going to get threatened?
Thanks to a great American!
I’m very familiar with the House Ear Institute and their fine work. Kudos to Rush for a gift that not only reflects his ability to give but can make a difference and tangibly demonstrates his appreciation for the care he received at HEI.
Can you think of any liberal politician who donates anything for a good cause?
No, they’re only good at “donating” other people’s money.
* Ahem *
De la Cruz died on July 31 of lymphoma at age 65.
Huh?
You’re right—and strong antibiotics can do the same thing, I believe. My mother lost most of her hearing after getting antibiotics after surgery.
Oh, come on. Sure I can. There's....
Wait. You said "good cause"?
Never mind.
The House Ear Institute is world reknowned and the place to go for additional training after residency/fellowship for budding Otologists. Of course their fellowship is also highly sought after and extremely competitive.
I did not realize that Limbaugh was a politician.
