President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, but argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.
He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered - a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.
"Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don't simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken," Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech..

I agree completely — Obama knows his role. He said himself he has a gift; he knows he’s charismatic, and a great speaker. But I think he’s only the face of the monster, not the brain or the muscle.
Good idea, but apart from the fact that no POTUS since Eisenhower has made a serious effort to enforce immigration laws, you would need to change federal law:

Yep. That's why he's throwing the elderly baby boomer's under the bus. They're on their way out as democrat voters, so Oboma is going to give freebies to illegals to sure up their vote before he goes for the amnesty bill.
He's using the Death care bill to take the baby boomer's out early, because as long as they're around, they're going to vote Republican to stay alive. The democrats don't need them any more. They're expendable.

If Obama pulls this off, our country is doomed as a bastion of free enterprise, innovation, increasing productivity and ever-increasing wealth, as we sink into the mediocrity and stagnancy of socialism and statism that has infected Europe.
We can only pray that Fox will cover this, because no one else will.

Besides, as long as they control Congress post 2010, Democrats will control redistricting as a consequence of the census and the lost seats may be regained in 2012."

I agree, but it is a risky political calculation to swap a constituency you don't yet have for one that is already in place. Traditionally, the elderly voted Democratic, because they tended to get credit for social and medical programs for the retired.
