One of my MOST favorite books--and one of the funniest! Of course, in the book the greedy entity was a land developer, not the "gubmint"--but the story did, with warmth and delightful humor, champion the right of a small farmer (and the fellow citizens of his hard-scrabble community) to make a living by irrigating a beanfield.

BTW, anyone ever read Senate Bill 787 sponsored by, among others, Oregon's Ron Wyden? It's pretty scary, because it proposes to define as "waters of the United States" not just navigable waters, but ALL waters--thus placing them under the control of the Feds. Lookout owners of land (and beanfields)--your rights are being eroded away by a flood of Democrat sponsored legislation!

Sounds like the movie (based on the book?) The Milagro Beanfield.

That was a good movie.

Hmmmm screen name coincidence?
