WASHINGTON The House has voted in favor of the biggest overhaul of college aid programs since their creation in the 1960s a bill to oust private lenders from the student loan business and put the government in charge.
Thursday's vote was 253-171 in favor of a bill that fulfills an array of President Barack Obama's campaign promises, ending subsidies for private lenders, boosting Pell Grants for needy students and paying for community college reforms, among other things.

It sure seems that we are being played here. Hoorah for ACORN defunding, but a huge victory for Obama’s target of taking control of student lending.
Interesting. Not a word about the ACORN de-funding.
Is Charles Gibson chief editor of AP these days?
Isn’t it time for people who call themselves “conservatives” to start working for the separation of SCHOOL & state? Me thinks so.
The list, ping
It looks like a small victory for the GOP house. The voted against the bill which they didn’t have the numbers to stop, but managed to get ACORN defunding in it. Not the best outcome, but better than having it pass without ACORN defunding, which it would have.

NOTHING should be passed in legislation right now!
Remember?
Lucrative business, college loans... Why would Big State want competition there??

What happen to HR 3288 filed by Johanns#2355??
I thought that was the one for blocking federal
funding of Acorn.
Now when you apply for govt education loans, your kid will have to give them all aliases ever used to post on the web, and passwords- - so they can check your ideological purity
Oh and means testing? coming soon- more redistribution. less loans for “rich” people
More power to the govt, not a good thing

I think Congress missed our message. We are so screwed. Don’t know if the United States can hold out till 2010 elections.
We can and we will.
Exactly. And if that doesn't work, just remember the following:
Yeah, and even though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death I shall fear no evil...
Because I'm the meanest SOB in the valley. :)
