Pelosi Worried About Angry Health Care Rhetoric
AP ^ | 9/17/09 | LAURIE KELLMAN

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that the anti-government rhetoric over President Barack Obama's health care reform effort is concerning because it reminds her of the violent debate over gay rights that roiled San Francisco in the 1970s. Anyone voicing hateful or violent rhetoric, she told reporters, must take responsibility for the results. "I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco," Pelosi said, suddenly speaking quietly. "This kind of rhetoric was very frightening" and created a climate in which violence took place, she said.

I hope all these wingnuts are worried about their re-election. That is the revolution we need in 2010!

Gay rights activists and some others at the time saw a link between the assassinations and the violent debate over gay rights that had preceded them for years.

That's what it was about? Oh Yeah?

"Back in those tumultuous days . . . politics was almost a pugilistic sport."

The Twinkie Defense -- Dan White shoots the mayor and a supervisor.

From the trial: "White had suffered from 'diminished capacity' and in that state had acted in 'the heat of passion . . .which fogs judgment.'"

What "passion?" See below.

Leading up to the shootings White, an elected supervisor, quit. He was married, his wife was pregnant, and he had been acting out of character for whatever reasons.

Days later he did apply to be reinstated after appeals from firefighters, police and neighborhood residents. Mayor Moscone publicly stated that if White [wanted it] he could have his job back.

But liberal and gay Harvey Milk had a score to settle with this All-American conservative young man -- he was conservative; as one article described it "Back in those tumultuous days . . . politics was almost a pugilistic sport."

"[L]iberal supervisors, led by Milk, had persuaded the mayor to appoint a liberal to the open seat. Believing he had been betrayed, White loaded his .38 revolver on the morning of Nov. 27, 1978, stuffed his pockets with bullets and headed for City Hall." [My emphasis]

The ultra-liberal race baiters like Pelosi say it was about homophobia, but

"Darlene Benton, who was on that jury, takes umbrage at that. 'People think it was about Twinkies and gays,' she said. 'It wasn't. I was born and raised in San Francisco. I've never been against gay people. There may have been a couple of jurors who were,' she said, 'but they never told us they felt that way.'"

Poor Nancy - She is very visibly shaken!!

We have never seen her this cowed before and its very uncharacteristic of her to be so cowed! Remember she is the one who very recently had the audacity to be calling town hall protesters as NAZIS!!

I would NOT be surprised if she has been threatened by her handlers and from higher up!!

I imagine Miss Nancy is talking about all the "hate" thrown at the saintly gays in the 70's. You know, it caused the death of Harvey Milk, boo-hoo-hoo, etc.

Just more pandering.

Proves again that libs care nothing for the Constitution including freedom of speech.

“... being assigned a broom closet as an office..”

I think you are way too generous. I was thinking of a large appliance box on the lawn.

She throws this flaming molotov cocktail and they write an article making her sound credible.

The people you hear screaming “racist” and now claiming they fear assassination (all leaders must fear that but not from their legitimate political opponents) - are the ones being irresponsible.

When she calls you a racist or says you are encouraging her murder because you don’t support a health care bill, she is encouraging some kook supporter of hers to harm you.

Musta missed the violence when 2 million came to protest DC. Any tear gas or riot police like the commie protests? Those grannies can really throw a punch.

Pray for America
