And at least in Texas, you can get CLE credit for reading American Lawyer and other such fluff. I mean, really, its not THAT hard.
For only about 1/3 of required CLE. The rest you've got to pay for...through the nose.

The company I used to work for put on CLEs at least once a month. It was free for all our lawyers, and we provided catered lunch. We even opened the sessions to non-firm lawyers - if you knew one of our lawyers, you were welcome to attend our CLEs.
And STILL many of our guys complained (to me personally, as if I had any say in anything) that we didn’t offer them enough opportunity.
