Helmand Province, Afghanistan
With the war increasing, Air Force Pararescue has been crisscrossing the skies picking up casualties.
(excerpt) We are flying in a special U.S. Air Force Blackhawk helicopter to fetch a seriously ill British soldier. In Iraq, many of the casevacs were done by ground forces. In other words, if we hit a bomb or got shot, soldiers would load up the dead and wounded and rush them to the CSH (Combat Support Hospital or cash). But in Afghanistan most of the fighting occurs outside the cities and far away from the base hospitals. Rescue helicopters stationed at places like Bagram, Kandahar Airfield and Camp Bastion have been flying thousands of missions.

thanks for the post. Those are probably the most detailed pics from Michael Yon in years about a rescue from the Green Berets. Hope the Brit they rescued is OK.
fantastic heroes.
Place marker to read later.
Michael’s stories are always great.
I read the article but am a bit confused. The Green Berets are not the USAF PJ’s.
Pray for our troops
BTT. For those who haven’t contributed to Yon’s effort I’d love to you join those of us who have. The guy should have won half a dozen Pulitzers by now. IMHO.
Please please please go to the link, and take the time to look at the photos and give honor to some of our bravest and best troops.
Michael Yon is an American treasure.
You have GOT to see this one, and pass it around to your buds.
Amen brother. We need our own patriotic awards, since the "famous" awards all belong to the PC commie pinko fags any more.
“The plan was to cut off the rotors and have a bigger helicopter use a cable to lift out the Blackhawk and fly it back to base. But when the soldiers started using a saw on the rotors, sparks hit the fuel that had leaked and the Blackhawk burned to the ground. The Army killed the Air Forces helicopter.”
Nothing changes. :0)
Great reporting. Great pictures.
Just saw it ... was thinking “I should tell Travis about this”.
Guess I shoulda been quicker.
;-P
Up... Boone and Carson just started the razzle dazzle
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The fact that Michael Yon is not feted by the journalism community as the Ernie Pyle of this era is as strong of an indictment of that community as there is, and there is big competition in other areas for indictments. I’ve been sending him money for a few years now, I’m probably overdue to send some more. Yon, FR, and Jerry Pournelle are the three sites/people I send money to for journalism.
The best half hour I have spent in some time. I saved it. Thanks for the ping.
To make it easy for folks, there are paypal and other electronic methods to help keep Michael Yon’s boots on the ground.
Otherwise, for those of us at snail speed:

Just licked an envelope myself.
Amen, I could not agree more.
We need to create and promote our own non-PC-commie awards for outstanding patriots like Yon.
“The old razzle dazzle!” You’re almost finished!
A really good article. Very readable too. I noticed in the pictures that the houses or it looked like compounds, all had a wall around them, then noticed he later mentioned that they all have walls.
I agree with everyone else, he is a really good writer. These guys sound like the best of the best.
