Bush was preparing to give a speech to the annual meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC. The conference is the event of the year for conservative activists; Republican politicians are required to appear and offer their praise of the conservative movement.
Latimer got the assignment to write Bush's speech. Draft in hand, he and a few other writers met with the president in the Oval Office. Bush was decidedly unenthusiastic.
"What is this movement you keep talking about in the speech?" the president asked Latimer.
Latimer explained that he meant the conservative movement -- the movement that gave rise to groups like CPAC.
"Let me tell you something," the president said. "I whupped Gary Bauer's ass in 2000. So take out all this movement stuff. There is no movement."

Bush is a socialist. News only to the blind dead and dumb.
"There is no movement."
Mhmmmm...
LOL. Of course, Hannity’s “conservatism in exile” slogan reveals some unintended irony about Hannity. It assumes that conservatives that conservatives were NOT in exile during the Bush years. The phrase can better by translated “Republicans in exile” or “Hannity in exile.”
I’ll never forget how Bush bent over backwards to appease Kennedy on the No Child Left Behind Act.
Kennedy kept upping the total amount of the bill week after week...finally agreement and compromise for BILLIONS.
The bill passed...Kennedy enjoyed warm blessings from the media...and they briefly mentioned Bush taking part.
One week later, Kennedy...the grand compromiser (snicker)...depants Bush and spanked him in a Press Briefing talking about how underfunded the Bill was.
Kennedy schooled Bush like a boy in remedial reading.
I see the Bushbots are out in full force today.
I find no reason NOT to believe this. Everything points to this as being totally inline with W’s behavior in office.
That sounds like Kennedy. It’s my understanding that President Bush was gracious to a fault. Am I right or wrong?
And you guys believe what Lattimer said? He’s already proving to be a liar, according to other posts here.
That’s right.
Dana Perino has already discounted his remarks. I think I’d listen to her first.
Mind pointing out where I said I believe Lattimer?
Do you know that it’s true? I don’t believe that at all. This Lattimer is looking for his 15 minutes of fame.
Yep, we can get pretty stupid sometimes.
I have a theory. I believe that what we say about or to people can either bless them or curse them (Christianese). He had so many negative remarks made, hateful remarks made, by both dems and pubs, to him and about him that they became a curse to him. How many people prayed for him to overcome those remarks. It would tire anyone out.
Why take this jerk’s word for it, ken? It might not even be true. For shame.
So are the antiBushBots.
And kept us safe. No more attacks after 911. That HAS to count for something. It’s more than we’ll get from odumbo.
