I must admit I don't understand a democrat being serious about their "faith" (meaning Christianity), and still being a democrat.

The two do not compute. Democrats promote everything God warns against: covetousness, homosexuality, abortion, laziness, false witness, etc.

Christ said by their fruits shall you know them.
