The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office yesterday launched a criminal probe into ACORN, while the Senate overwhelmingly voted to ban federal funding for the nonprofit group after two New York workers were caught on video aiding a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute.
A spokesman for DA Charles Hynes confirmed the investigation but would not comment further.
On the Senate floor last night, in a stunning turnaround from votes earlier this year supporting ACORN, lawmakers passed a bipartisan measure, 83 to 7, to strip its funding.
The vote opened up the first split between Sens. Charles Schumer, who sided with the majority, and Kirsten Gillibrand, whom Republicans immediately slammed for backing the organization.

Gillibrand's office said she found the actions of certain ACORN employees "reprehensible" but added, "The truth remains that thousands of New York families who are facing foreclosure depend on charitable organizations like ACORN for assistance."
Either way, she is toast in NY
Breitbart just said on Hannity that there are more than 4 cities.
Breitbart releasing new tape tomorrow night on Hannity. Said they are moving South to the border.
I want to make sure everyone knows that ACORN has already received something like 55 Million dollars in Federal money. They were slated to get up to 8.5 billion (yes, billion with a b) in the Stimulus Package. 8.5 billion.
San Diego maybe?
Thanks for the updates. They caught me up fast. Nice work.
Market ticker blog says that there are rumors that Beck has 48 hours of tapes and only 2 hours have been released so far.
Don’t put too much faith in Charlie Hynes. He couldn’t find his ____ in the dark with both hands.
“”Said they are moving South to the border.””
Who? Breitbart?
Gillibrand is unwilling to cross Obama (Obama = Acorn). Obama and Biden made personal calls to other Democrats who wanted to run in the primary against her - got them to drop out. In addition, Acorn has endorsed her. She needs Acorn’s support (needs the Working Families Party line on the ballot) in order to win NYC big (otherwise, many NYC Dems who think she is not “progressive” enough may just not vote for her). There was a lot of opposition from NYC “progressives” when she was appointed.
Schumer is in a different situation. He is not running next year and probably figures he has his re-election wrapped up anyway. He might even have advised her not to vote against Acorn - would understand why she did that.
Yes. Andrew Breitbart was on Hannity with Hannah Giles.
From biggovernment.com
Last night, 83 members of the United States Senate went on record to prohibit ACORN from collecting any federal funds. Tonight, over 130 members of the House of Representatives sent a letter to President Obama, asking him to disclose and terminate all federal funding to ACORN.
“Acorn” is trending 7th on Twitter. That is huge.
Hmmmmm ... thought he *was* running in 2010 ... elected in 1998, reelected in 2004, with 2010 up again for a 3rd term.
Gillibrand, on the other hand, is facing a 'special election' in 2010 for a term which would have been up in 2012 had Hillary not left the Senate seat.
Both NY Senators are up for re-election in 2010
I thought he wasn’t running next year because no one seems to talk about it. But if he is - it’s still a different situation with him. He’s in a much stronger position than Gillibrand who has authenticity problems with “progressives.”
She hails from a somewhat conservative district and won her seat in 2006 as a 'blue dog' Dem, then was appointed to the Senate by 'accidental Governor' Paterson, who is on the political ropes himself ... all the while with a completely dysfunctional State government which saw a Dem State Senator see-saw defection to the Repubs and then back to the Dems in an astonishing power grab which lasted weeks and got him installed as Senate Majority Leader ... in a word, NY State is one *really* f--d up government!
Anyway, back to Gillibrand ... she entered the Senate as a blue-dog, and then quickly abandoned that position for purely partisan reasons ... going full tilt into liberalism. So now her constituent bona-fides have been compromised as well as her principles towards them. She now appears to be nothing more than yet another ambitious political hack with no principles whatsoever. And she's just a novice too, which makes it even worse!
Gillibrand is toast in 2010
I hope she is toast. If the Republicans see it that way, it should be easier for them to get a viable candidate to run against her.
