For the second time this year, a crew of vandals coveting couture rammed a car into a fashionista's paradise at the Village of Merrick Park and stole high-priced items.

Coral Gables police arrested 26-year-old Jermaine L. Williams on Monday in connection with breaking into the Gucci store in the Coral Gables mall and stealing purses, wallets and belts. It was not immediately clear how much the loot was worth, but a good estimate would be in the thousands of dollars -- a purse at the store can cost around $1,000.

Police were looking for even more suspects, who ran from police after it became clear that their plan was botched.

Coral Gables police arrested 26-year-old Jermaine L. Williams on Monday...

I love this:

Police were looking for even more suspects, who ran from police after it became clear that their plan was botched.

Security cameras caught the crew trying to take bags about 5:25 a.m., police said. Afterward, three or four cars were seen speeding out of the mall. They left behind a front door whose glass was almost shattered but still in place.

Later Monday morning, a Miami police officer saw two men in a gray sedan stuffed with handbags at Southwest Third Avenue and Eighth Street. When they stopped the vehicle, both occupants ran away.

This is rich.. how many times can you describe things without describing them. I know a car was gray though-- ha! Be on the lookout for a gray car with men from a crew. At least I know one of them is named Jermaine. (wink)

This is one of those crimes that I can’t get too excited about. Yeah, I know, any thieves should be caught and punished, but thousands of dollars for a handbag? I just can’t find any sympathy for someone who spends that kind of money on such status symbols. If you can earn that kind of money then spend as you will with my blessing. But if the cops put the investigation at the bottom of the list they get no complaint from me. Solve the one about the missing beluga caviar first.

Must be nice to buy $1000 bags. Not like I’d prefer to date a woman that gets them though.

Hmmm... I have a sneaky suspicion that is him. He is a little light in the loafers. I can see him stealing handbags.

Maybe we'll soon see ACORN videos of their workers sporting Gucci bags as "company incentive awards."

Crime is crime. If it was my Gucci that was stolen I sure as hell would want the cops to investigate like any other stolen property crime...not put it at the bottom of the pile simply because of a “DAMN THE RICH” mentality. Fyi- $1,000 is not that much for a Gucci...

No. Crime isn’t crime. Taking a handbag is not the same as, say, killing someone. Or running for President on a faked birth certificate.
