Obama To Autoworkers: Policies Are Working

WARREN, Ohio - President Barack Obama, claiming credit for an uptick on his watch, told autoworkers Tuesday that the economy is on its way back from the brink because of his policies.
Pledging to stand firm with autoworkers in northeast Ohio, Obama told factory workers in this town outside Youngstown that his administration had no choice but to intervene and prevent the collapse of automakers. He told General Motors employees that their company has retooled itself and is heading back to a solid business, in part, because of its work force.
“Your survival and the success of our economy depended on making sure that we got the U.S. auto industry back on its feet,” Obama said, standing near a production line where compact Chevrolet Cobalts are produced.
He said those small cars were among the most popular under his temporary Cash for Clunkers program that offered drivers up to $4,500 to buy more fuel-efficient automobiles. General Motors has increased production of the compact auto and rehired laid-off workers to restore a second shift here.
“Because of the steps we have taken, this plant is about to shift into high gear,” Obama said. “A hundred and 50 of your co-workers came back to work yesterday. More than a thousand will be coming back to work in less than three weeks as the production of the Cobalt ramps up.”

A friend of mine who was in car sales for decades and left it just last year had this (among other things) to say about cash for Clunkers: It pulled buyers from September through November from an already anemic auto sales climate. Wait’ll you see the September through November auto sales figures.

Well, except for massively increasing unemployment, a commercial real estate market about to collapse, the end of the unions at Boeing and multi-trillion dollar deficits things are pretty rosy. What’s on TV tonight?

Yeah, that will make a big dent on the 15 million Americans who are unemployed.
A year from now GM dealers, what few are left, will have showrooms full of unsold cars and these union workers will be out of jobs. They will find out just how that hope and change will work for them.

This is such a gooberheaded mistake, I can’t believe what a dolt Obama is. To take credit for a recovery after only 8 months is to set yourself up for an epic fail if things go sour. It’s like crowing you’ve won the ballgame after scouring one run in the second inning when you are behind by five.
My own read is that auto sales will plummet without the clunker program, FHA loans are already 20% in default so all we’ve done is reinflate that bubble, and shipping and Christmas are all down indicators. Unemployment is going nowhere but up. The banks are all bankrupt.
I hope Obama continues to crow like a rooster, payback is about to be a bitch.
Uptick? GE just announced a lay off this morning of 1480 workers(30% of workforce) at the locomotive division in Erie PA. BO needed to travel a 100 miles north and tell these people the good news. GE reason North American sales flat because of the economy. As for Asian sales the new plant in Kazikistan opened a few months ago. Those billions in stimulus that went to GE did not save these jobs.
I seem to be stepping in something here... my gosh, what is this, it’s rising! And getting higher! What the hell is going!?
