Obama Visit Sparks Protests, Rush Hour Havoc
NBC Philadelphia ^ | Sep 15, 2009 | TERESA MASTERSON

President Obama’s visit to Center City to attend a fundraiser for Sen. Arlen Specter this afternoon will be sparking protests and is bound to clog up rush hour traffic.

Air Force One touches down in Philadelphia at 3:45 p.m., according to the president’s schedule. Though police won’t give the president’s specific route through the city, either I-76 or I-95 are bound to be used--and jammed--right in time for rush hour.

Obama’s three-hour-and-40-minute visit will be spent at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for Specter’s $2.5 million campaign fundraiser. The $1,000-a-head cocktail reception and $10,000-a-head dinner event begins at 3 p.m.

In addition to the presidential motorcades in Center City during rush hour, traffic will be affected by Gov. Rendell and Mayor Nutter’s entourage, 1,000 other guests, and protesters on the scene.

Among the protests planned, the Independence Hall Tea Party Association is calling for people to gather at 12th and Arch streets from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to protest the “big government policies of Obama and Specter.”

Air Force One leaves Philadelphia soil at 6:55 p.m.

Gee who knew that such a new Democrat is important enough to get a visit from the president himself?

See if Philly makes a fuss about traffic, when the dear leader deigns to visit their city.

Amazing that Obama would get involved in a Dem primary between a turncoat former RINO and a sitting Dem Congressman, i.e., Sestak.

My conspiracy theory of the day:

Arlen switched parties in part based on a promise of support from Obama. Obama promised to come to PA and campaign directly for him. Obama needed Specter enough in the short term that he made such a promise, he wants a REAL democrat down the road. So he and his pals orchestrated Sezstak (spelling?) to run as a primary challenger. Now he has to make good on his campaigning promise so he chooses the worst possible time, guaranteed to make people say "#&@! Specter!"

Whatcha think?

Philly was a fine city back in the day that Mayor Frank Rizzo was running the show, since Hizzoner checked out, Philly is just the anal orifice for the rest of Pennsylvania.

And Specter and 0bama are just a couple of prominent turds.

from experiance, I can say that:

I-95 northbound will be closed from below the airport to above whatever exit the motorcade uses for his arival

I-95 Southbound will be closed for his departure.

also no take offs or landings while the president is on the ground, on airforce one.

if you work in philly, let your family know you won’t be home for dinner.

I was flying back from Europe through Philadelphia yesterday right when Obama was arriving. We had to stay in a holding pattern for about 45 minutes before we could land, so we ended up landing about an hour late. My flight back to Boston was supposed to depart at 5 pm. Some people missed the previous connecting flight to Boston. Due to the delays, then a computer glitch, and then some personnel issues with the airline, the entire flight was boarded and deboarded onto two different planes before I was rebooked on an 8:30 flight.
