If you are going to continue to conflate the Libertarian Party with the political philosophy called “libertarianism”, then there’s no point in continuing this. Bush and McCain both shared their immigration policy. Conservatives don’t.

We will not HAVE cycles like the last two. If the Democrats keep the house in 2010 they will be unstoppable. They are restrained now merely out of fear that the public will vote in Republicans.

The Democrats Controlled both Houses of Congress during almost the entire period from 1931 to 1994. That is sixty three years. Deduct from that 1947 to 1949 and 1953 to 1955, when the GOP held both houses (plus Ike in the 50’s), and the Senate for a couple of terms when Reagan was elected. When one party controls the purse strings for 59 out of 63 years, it takes a lot of work to undo it. Unfortunately Bush was a fiscal disaster, and the Congressional GOP turned into pork eaters. If someone like Forbes had somehow won in 2000, things would have been very different. That is why I opposed Bush’s nomination. Electing Gore or Kerry was not an option.

Would you like to see the plain language version of the traditional libertarian platform on border controls? It is a bit of an eye opener.

Which is why they lost. Just like the pragmatic Romans lost. Play tribe against tribe, invite new Germanic guest workers in, enlist them in your armies, pay them tribute, fall to them. You are correct that this has happened before... and often enough to be well beyond farce.

When the GOP stops being another arm of the Democrat Party, then they will be worth of support. Until then, may your chains rest lightly. The national GOP despises Conservatives far more than it ever even disliked Democrats. It pretty much always has.
I’d be happy if we just had a second party. The current one party system, same “party” different names, sucks.
I was speaking of Gingrich as the architect of the '94 "Contract with America". He was undoubtedly the "front man", the "face" of that historic revolution. As a nation-wide example, it is one of the best successes the Republicans have ever had.

I don't think that is true at all. In fact, Bush was not liked very well. There certainly was relief when he finally won against McCain, but all the way along he was a bit of a stumbler and a bumbler, no one can deny that. Bush did not get full support (outright love for the man) until he was standing atop a pile of debris at the trade center. THAT was his moment in the sun, and it went down hill from there.
He won by running hard to the right.
I think that we have to figure that even in 2008 that McCain was more likable than Mitt Romney who had tons of money and organization but turns people off.
McCain is the single most detested man in the Republican party- At least by Conservatives. Especially after amnesty. You must be smokin' dope.

Reform the GOP. Cut through the corruption and the elitism and the inside the beltway mentality of current leadership.
You want a parliamentary system, move to France. The food and wine are great, and you get a lot of vacation time.

Bush was an all-around disaster. He was as conservative as he needed to be to get re-elected and then turned hard left. He and McCain pretty well destroyed Conservatism within the Republican party.
If it were not for We the People standing up in a non-partisan context with the TEA parties, Conservatism would be dead right now.
I voted for him with reservations the first go-around. I voted for him the second time for the war's sake alone. I will never do that again, and it cost the Republicans my allegiance, as well as the allegiance of most Conservatives.
I did not support Forbes, btw. He was good for the FiCons, but that was all. I supported Keyes in 2k, as he was the only one who could be considered a Reaganite.
I have no idea what the actual records were for the people involved, so your lesson is lost on me. If you are going by patronage, that means nothing.
