“Hey when you try and get people to vote against republicans and try to sell libertarianism then you own their immigration policy as well.”

If you are going to continue to conflate the Libertarian Party with the political philosophy called “libertarianism”, then there’s no point in continuing this. Bush and McCain both shared their immigration policy. Conservatives don’t.

There is no point arguing with a rock, after all. It won’t even suffice to annoy the rock.

“I have no obligation or responsibility to vote for a particular party.”

You are responsible to all of us, to the general welfare, to make a good decision. You do have a duty.

“I’m not legally, morally, or Constitutionally required to make any choice at all. “

You are indeed morally obligated to make a choice. Your choice or non-choice could affect the welfare of millions. There are duties that exist outside of law.

“Don’t you get tired of it?”

No. It is also our duty to endure. That is also a quality of conservatives. We should be hard to kill or discourage.

“Spending increased, both in raw numbers and as a percentage, during Bush’s term. “

This was the result of necessary military expenditures.

“Until then, keep the overly simplistic bleatings for the sheep, and enjoy several more cycles like the last two.”

I, simplistic ?

We will not HAVE cycles like the last two. If the Democrats keep the house in 2010 they will be unstoppable. They are restrained now merely out of fear that the public will vote in Republicans.

The barbarians are at the gates, all men are needed at the walls. Now is when you are wanted.

The Democrats Controlled both Houses of Congress during almost the entire period from 1931 to 1994. That is sixty three years. Deduct from that 1947 to 1949 and 1953 to 1955, when the GOP held both houses (plus Ike in the 50’s), and the Senate for a couple of terms when Reagan was elected. When one party controls the purse strings for 59 out of 63 years, it takes a lot of work to undo it. Unfortunately Bush was a fiscal disaster, and the Congressional GOP turned into pork eaters. If someone like Forbes had somehow won in 2000, things would have been very different. That is why I opposed Bush’s nomination. Electing Gore or Kerry was not an option.

Other candidates included Reps. Bob Dornan and John Schmitz of the Birch Society. Pete Wilson won the primary and the election, 1982.

So what is your point?

“Push the collapse on to my grandchildren? “

Maybe, if the collapse happens in their days.

I’m afraid that history has no good lessons for us at this point. We have witnessed a high point of civilization, and its very unlikely that things are going to reach a higher point yet.

The good men of older cultures, at such a point, fought not for new heights, but for time.

When you war against the republican party and try to push libertarianism and third parties to conservatives then I will of course use the best representation of libertarianism, the party itself.

Would you like to see the plain language version of the traditional libertarian platform on border controls? It is a bit of an eye opener.

“I’m afraid that history has no good lessons for us at this point. We have witnessed a high point of civilization, and its very unlikely that things are going to reach a higher point yet.”

I’m not willing to allow us to become Rome and I do not view this present civilization as at a peak.

That is surrender.

“The good men of older cultures, at such a point, fought not for new heights, but for time.”

Which is why they lost. Just like the pragmatic Romans lost. Play tribe against tribe, invite new Germanic guest workers in, enlist them in your armies, pay them tribute, fall to them. You are correct that this has happened before... and often enough to be well beyond farce.

'I have seldom seen 4 real Conservatives... Reaganites, vying for the same office, and even when I do, by their records, there is usually a clearly superior candidate - one who can uphold the basic principles of all three pillars of Conservatism better than all the rest. "Like" has very little to do with it.'

When the GOP stops being another arm of the Democrat Party, then they will be worth of support. Until then, may your chains rest lightly. The national GOP despises Conservatives far more than it ever even disliked Democrats. It pretty much always has.

I’d be happy if we just had a second party. The current one party system, same “party” different names, sucks.

Absolutely RIGHT!
1) Get off your butts and change the GOP at the local level.
2) Help out conservative Republicans all you can.
3) Dump the RINOs in the primary.
4) Realize the MEDIA will keep picking our candidates unless we stop them.

Weird example, Gingrich only reached congressman for his Georgia district as far as popular elections go [...]

I was speaking of Gingrich as the architect of the '94 "Contract with America". He was undoubtedly the "front man", the "face" of that historic revolution. As a nation-wide example, it is one of the best successes the Republicans have ever had.

and Bush was more likable than McCain and Steve Forbes and the others in 2000.

I don't think that is true at all. In fact, Bush was not liked very well. There certainly was relief when he finally won against McCain, but all the way along he was a bit of a stumbler and a bumbler, no one can deny that. Bush did not get full support (outright love for the man) until he was standing atop a pile of debris at the trade center. THAT was his moment in the sun, and it went down hill from there.

He won by running hard to the right.

I think that we have to figure that even in 2008 that McCain was more likable than Mitt Romney who had tons of money and organization but turns people off.

McCain is the single most detested man in the Republican party- At least by Conservatives. Especially after amnesty. You must be smokin' dope.

Rush is right.

The American electoral system designed to thwart third parties from coming to power. Almost impossible to get elected as 3rd party

Reform the GOP. Cut through the corruption and the elitism and the inside the beltway mentality of current leadership.

You want a parliamentary system, move to France. The food and wine are great, and you get a lot of vacation time.

You just check your personal liberty at the door.

His Barackness will be elected for a 2nd term if this nonsense talk doesn’t stop

Stick to the Conservative principles that usually win elections. Check that 3rd party fringe stuff at the door.

[...] it takes a lot of work to undo it.

Oh, I don't know... Obama has undone pretty well everything done by Bush that was worth a crap, and did it in his first 3 months.

Unfortunately Bush was a fiscal disaster, and the Congressional GOP turned into pork eaters. If someone like Forbes had somehow won in 2000, things would have been very different. That is why I opposed Bush’s nomination. Electing Gore or Kerry was not an option.

Bush was an all-around disaster. He was as conservative as he needed to be to get re-elected and then turned hard left. He and McCain pretty well destroyed Conservatism within the Republican party.

If it were not for We the People standing up in a non-partisan context with the TEA parties, Conservatism would be dead right now.

I voted for him with reservations the first go-around. I voted for him the second time for the war's sake alone. I will never do that again, and it cost the Republicans my allegiance, as well as the allegiance of most Conservatives.

I did not support Forbes, btw. He was good for the FiCons, but that was all. I supported Keyes in 2k, as he was the only one who could be considered a Reaganite.

I have no idea what the actual records were for the people involved, so your lesson is lost on me. If you are going by patronage, that means nothing.

I am sick to death of lying traitorous backstabbing spineless sack-less pandering eunuchs in the RINO party!

Pro family values, pro military, Strong national defense, No amnesty for illegal aliens, no socialism, Pro Constitution, limited government conservatism! Except no substitutes.
