A sign of desperation? Can't see it any other way. The idea that Obama's political opponents are motivated by racism will apparently now be "mainstreamed" into the Democratic party's talking points against conservatives.
It's one thing for liberal bloggers and pundits to casually drop the "R" word in trying to smear administration opponents. But it appears that the race card will become an official meme of the Democrats when attacking their opponents.

I said exactly the same thing back in 2001. Of course, then it was George Bush who was “selected, not elected”, and the dems where in all a tizzy. They didn’t seem to care about the country, its spirit, or its reputation then.

Johnson also knows that their majority won’t stand absent the support of 95% of black voters. This solid block of 25 million is what keeps the Democrats in power.
This would be an admission of utter defeat by the Left. And stating that fact (and the reasons for it) should be our sole response.
Probably the reason why Powell didn’t run for the nomination in 1996. He would have got the same treatment that Thomas has.
