This story has advanced quite a bit in your absence...

Lots of holes, but the picture’s starting to get a bit clearer....

Several well-known counter terror and homeland security web sites, always all over this type of story, have no mention of it on day 2. Factor in it broke 3 days after 9-11, and their silence becomes deafening.

Another data point is this thread itself - 7800 views in 15 hours. That’s an awful lot of interest.

” and their silence becomes deafening “

The ‘dog that didn’t bark’ is always a valid data point... Usually an indicator of ‘more than meets the eye’....

Good work - thanks for picking that up.. ;)

I suppose I should apologize for the crossposts, but every one of these fills in another pixel or so in the picture...

Reports: NYC Raid Focuses On Denver Terror Cell
TheDenverChannel.com ^ | September 15, 2009

Posted on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 5:18:58 PM by keepitreal

DENVER — The massive FBI probe that triggered raids in New York City is focused on a potential Denver-based terror cell plotting another attack on the scale of 9/11, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

CALL7 Investigators have learned that the Governor’s office of Homeland Security has been involved in the investigation and believe there is no imminent threat in Colorado.

(snip)

A law enforcement source told CALL7 Investigators that the investigation has been going on for two weeks.

A Denver area man, detained and then released Monday in connection with the New York City terrorism raids, had recently traveled to Pakistan before he showed up in New York last Thursday with bomb-making documents(snip)

Hundreds of FBI agents are “on the ground in Colorado, conducting round-the-clock surveillance on five suspects,” the Daily News reported.

(snip)

FBI spokesman James Margolin confirmed that authorities executed search warrants at multiple locations in connection with what he called an “ongoing investigation.” He would not elaborate.

The execution of search warrants came after days of surveillance.

Bomb-making materials were not found during the New York City raids, according to ABC and additional searches were under way in Colorado.

The Denver area man (snip), was allowed to return to Colorado and is under close surveillance, ABC reported.

The FBI and Homeland Security officials warned local law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for materials that could be used to make explosives, 7News learned. (snip)

“The FBI is seriously spooked about these guys planning another 9/11,” a former senior counter terrorism official told the Daily News. “This is not some ... FBI informant-driven case. This is the real thing.”

(snip)

The New York Times reported that the man moved to Colorado about eight months ago. The Times reported he is of Afghan descent.

Colo. man denies terrorist ties after NYC raids

A Colorado man who’s the target of a terrorism probe that led to several police raids in New York City denies he did anything wrong. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press Tuesday that the FBI had put Najibullah (Nah-JEEB’-ull-ah) Zazi (ZAH’-zee) under surveillance in connection with a suspected plot to make homemade bombs.

The official wasn’t authorized to speak publicly and insisted on anonymity.

Zazi told The Associated Press in a Denver suburb that he had recently visited New York and knows he’s under investigation. But he says he’s innocent.

Actually, the Mumbai bombing thread has somewhere between 98,000 - 99,000 hits last time I checked.

People want to know about terrorism and the follow up to incidents of this nature.

Thanks Uncle Ike. There’s some pretty disturbing background here, eh?

And yet the left can focus only on Joe Wilson.

Wow, thanks Uncle Ike. What surprises me is that they released their main suspsect, however are closely watching him. Sounds odd. And then to announce that he’s released, but being closely monitored? That is the one part that doesn’t make sense to me. What do you think about it?

” doesn’t make sense to me. What do you think about it? “

I’m at a loss, here, too.... It’s apparent that something major is going on, but I see the FBI and various local Law Enforcement breaking procedure and tradecraft...

Part of it, I think, goes along with SE Mom’s insight this morning, that some combination of urgency and leaks forced the authorities into action earlier than they wanted, and they’re scrambling and ad-libbing to keep the whole investigation from going in the toilet...

Two possible, and not mutually exclusive, bad outcomes might be that a)the now-alerted cells move farther underground, and/or b)whatever action is planned (I’m speculating a series of coordinated attacks on ‘soft targets) gets implemented earlier than the terrorists wanted....

This is all speculation - truthfully, I haven’t a clue.. ;)

That is just what I was thinking.

BTW, did you hear Sen. Chuck Schumer (Hoplophobe--NY)'s lame disclaimers about the potential severity of the terrorist attack, last night?

Glad we caught the bad guys -- but it sounded like we only got them *hours* before the attack started...?

You notice how this happened in New York, while all the "right wing domestic, ahem, terrorists, ahem" were in DC for the Tea Party?

Bite me, Nappy(*).

(*) "Nappy" is the nickname of 550 AM, KFYI, "The Valley's Talk Station", host, Bruce Jacobs...for Janet Napolitano.

Cheers!

Well, I think that ties in with the whole Socialized Health Care Debacle and the name-calling *there*, too.

Apparently, Janet "Nappy" Napolitano (nickname from KFYI 550 AM's Bruce Jacobs) called us tea-bagger sympathizers right-wing domestic terrorists, in that now-infamous "report".(+)

Nancy Pelosi was attempted to get with the swing of things, by calling us "Niazis" -- but like the airheaded twit she is, it came out "Nazis".

That's my explanation, and I'm sticking to it...

Cheers!

(+) Just curious, did ACORN have a hand in writing that report? /sarc>
