Some Fear GOP Is Being Carried To The Extreme

The Republican establishment hopes cooler heads will prevail over strongly anti-Obama parts of the conservative base.

Tens of thousands of people converged on Washington to protest Obama.

By Peter Wallsten

September 14, 2009

Reporting from Washington - Amid a rebirth of conservative activism that could help Republicans win elections next year, some party insiders now fear that extreme rhetoric and conspiracy theories coming from the angry reaches of the conservative base are undermining the GOP's broader credibility and casting it as the party of the paranoid.

Such insiders point to theories running rampant on the Internet, such as the idea that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is thus ineligible to be president, or that he is a communist, or that his allies want to set up Nazi-like detention camps for political opponents. Those theories, the insiders say, have stoked the GOP base and have created a "purist" climate in which a figure such as Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) is lionized for his "You lie!" outburst last week when Obama addressed Congress.

They are "wild accusations and the paranoid delusions coming from the fever swamps," said David Frum, a conservative author and speechwriter for President George W. Bush who is among the more vocal critics of the party base and of the conservative talk show hosts helping to fan the unrest.

"Like all conservatives, I am concerned about this administration's accumulation of economic power," Frum said. "Still, you have to be aware that there's a line where legitimate concerns begin to collapse into paranoid fantasy."

This article simply reflects the lefts penchant for fantasy. GOP being extreme? Obama being centrist? How dumb.

It’s good to see the L.A. Times worry about conservatives so. Just warms the cockles of my heart.

This only makes sense if you understand that the media defines the “center” as wherever the RAT party is on the political spectrum.

This is like suggesting an offense change their play calling after they’ve just picked up three straight first downs.

"Some" always means "Their Editor or Producer".

Always.

"Death To America" Couric used to use that all the time.

Some Fear GOP Is Being Carried To The Extreme

As for me, I fear financial difficulties may force the L. A. Times to go out of business.

“Some Fear GOP Is Being Carried To The Extreme...”

#####

Really?

Some fear cowardly, talentless propagandists, masquerading as journalists, routinely use the “Some Fear” prefix phrase to promote their own distorted views as a “news” story.

Extremism in defense of Liberty is no vice.

Given the tyrants we face in out own government right now, consider me an extremist.

This is why the elitist country-club RINOs ALL NEED TO GO!!!!!! They have sold out our party and our country ENOUGH!

Get rid of the Romneys, the Huckabees, the Snowes, the Collinses, the Crists, etc, and put in COMMON-SENSE CONSERVATIVES!!!!!!!

We aren’t paranoid! We KNOW that Obama was born in Kenya; he is NOT an American citizen and is, therefore an illegitimate ACTING PRESIDENT! I can’t believe that even prominent conservatives won’t touch the matter!

PURGE THE GOP OF ALL RINOS AND DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Any article/interview that quotes David Frum immediately loses credibility with me.

"The Republican establishment"?

They must mean the RINOs! The real Republicans were either in D.C on Saturday, or at home rooting them on!

Real Republicans won't dance with the Devil!

I see Big Media is still underestimating the crowd. I have a friend who was there and said it was likely around 200,000. She said they were severely restricted in where they were allowed to stand and it would have been tough to get the whole crowd into one shot. The ubiquitous ‘they’ and ‘some’ is always entertaining. Using those ambiguous terms allows for speculation without responsibility for getting the facts straight.

A blatantly obvious attempt by a biased MSM source to plant the idea with independents that the popular uprising occurring throughout the U.S. is extremist and some how not legitimate.

Notice how they recognize that if they made the accusation directly that it would carry much less weight - so they find a “pretend” conservative to make the accusation for them.

Frum is only concerned about obama’s acumulation of “economic power”? How about far-reaching Social, Cultural, Economic, all encompassing power?

David Frump, David Brooks, Piggy Noonan can all take a flying leap b/c no one cares what they say. The MSM only uses them as useful idiots.
