On Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters thronged to the U.S. Capitol to angrily accuse President Obama of taking the country in the wrong direction.
A day later, in the shadow of the Washington Monument, many participants at a much smaller gathering -- the 24th annual Black Family Reunion -- said the level of hostility toward the nation's first African American president had little to do with policy differences over health care or taxes and everything to do with race.
"It' s not conducive to the coalitions we need to build in this country," said Vera Hope, 60, of Mount Rainier as she left a booth promoting health prevention. "I'm disgusted and upset by the hostility. Let's call it was it is -- it's just a disguise for right-wing racists. They are fomenting a climate of violence to provoke people."
From its inception, the two-day event has focused on healing and uplifting black families. This year's theme was "Renewing, Reviving and Reconnecting the Family Community." It featured musical performances, health screenings and motivational speakers.
Although less animated than Saturday's protesters at the Capitol, the reunion participants were just as heartfelt as they talked about the change they want for America.(continued)

I'm sure that I'm not pigmentaciously qualified to be in your ACORN coalition sister. Besides, I don't know how to set up an IRS exempt brothel with teenaged illegal alien prostitutes from El Salvador. I just pay my taxes like a dumb@$$ so Charlie Rangel can hand it out to your coalitions.
“Race is always,” Sims said, “going to be a factor in American politics.”
Aha, so Mr. Sims in his view assumes whites are as racist as blacks. There's the problem.

Anyone who cares about their country would be very concerned that a POTUS had hidden every scrap of information of his life that he possibly could.
Blacks will be excluded from the national debate if they continue to insist that any criticism of the president is racial. It is not possible to take them seriously.
I was there at the march with the DC Chapter. This march had NOTHING to do with his race or anyone else’s.
It was the most well behaved and orderly crowd I have EVER seen.
EVER.
There was NO drunkeness, there was NO incivility, there was NO profanity, there was no lewdness.
There were blacks in the crowd (as much as some people simply cannot believe there is such a thing as a “black conservative”, they DO exist) and I didn’t see ANYONE mistreating them or exhibiting ANY behavior towards them that could be construed and less than 100% the same behavior anyone else would get.
Some people see racism in EVERYTHING. Many people are racist themselves, exhibiting racist behavior in accusing others (in nearly every venue of life and its circumstances) of the sin. I believe Obama is one of these, due to his long association with “Reverend” Wright and his brand of Black Liberation Theology.
“....and everything to do with race.”
Yes, it is, because morons like you make it so. YOUR boy started this new racial push, WE sure as heck didn’t.
As for me, you now have my permission to call me a racist until the cows come home, I am sick of your silly “feel sorry for me” and “the whites are picking on the blacks” crap, and I no long give a flying flip what you black racists think.
I am so sick of this cry baby race crap.
These idiots need to wake up and understand that some of us can actually not like a person, because of many reasons that have nothing to do with their damn skin color.
Bottom line, your “first black president” sucks...... and he would still suck if his skin was pink and blue and maybe even purple.
*It’s about the stupidity, stupid.*
Being called a racist from a "Black Family Reunion". One has to laugh, don't one?!
You’re not alone. An increasing number of folks are sick of it.
Yep. It was first revealed on a national level when Rev. Wright's liberation theology hit the news. I don't think most of us realized how pervasive those delusional views are. Even after that I think most Americans thought it was an aberration but eight months of 0bama has pretty much erased all doubt.
Won't fly, "Black Family Reunion." This twaddle will only work with people who already sold their 40 acres and their mule, or people who still read the sorry Washington Post.
Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, wore it out waxing my car. Stop this madness. Is every Jackle and Poppinjay to be defended who happens to be of African descent?
Nonsense!
It s not conducive to the coalitions we need to build in this country,
Coalitions like those that bind ACORN, SEIU, Black Panthers, and all manner of unpleasant community organisations to Obama.
That would be a good use for the stimulus money. We could buy an island somewhere, put them all on boats, along with the left wing legislature and Bozo, and send them to the Island. They could keep what was left of the stimulus to start their new country up with. They could be as communist as they wanted and no one would protest, least of all me.
Nothing racist about an org called "Black Family Reunion".... But we'd be the racists if we had an org called "White Family Reunion"...grrrr
I am so tired of this racist thing..it means nothing anymore. When someone says that to me, I just say, “No, YOU’RE A RACIST..they usually look at me dumbfounded and then walk away! Try it!
Race Card?
Sorry it’s not longer accepted here.
Race Card?
I’m sorry. Your card has been declined. Do you have another?
Race Card?
Sorry your over your limit. Cash or Check?
Sorry “Black Family Reunion” and others in the Black community who see “racisim” in everything; we’re not accepting this premise any longer!
Sadly, because of a majority in the Black Community wanting to wallow in forever victimhood, you by necessity MUST see racism in everything, even when it doesn’t exist.
Your charges of racism have finally jumped the shark. We reject the premise of your charge and refuse to accept the guilt you want us to feel. Start by taking reponsibility for your own lives, and quit looking for excuses to not try! For crying out loud, you live in the United States of America!
Seems the real racists in this country are the guilty Liberals who continually point out your color and your inability to succeed without them. They’re the ones keeping you down...not us!
When you protest, everyone is to show deference and respect. When someone opposes your point of view, then that person is racist. Try shutting up.
