Currently, leftists have reportedly generated $1 million in donations for Rep. Joe Wilson's opponent last time, Rob Miller. Wilson, for his part has reaped about $750k. But there is a big difference beneath the surface: : Kos and DCCC immediately organized fundraising against Wilson. Wilson's $ is based on his own appeal and spontaneous contributors. From Paul Kane of the WaPo:

I’m betting he makes $5 million over a thirty day period. His seat is 100 percent safe. All Wilson has to do in the campaign is accuse the rival of taking out-of-state money to win the seat. Wilson can save the money for his run for senator in two to four years. I think he just set up his chances.

doesn’t matter how much money they collected. That just makes Rob Miller a rich looser, who will no doubt buy a nice boat and stuff and vanish to some RAT infested tropical island somewhere.

Looks like the sure winners will be the local-media shareholders. They will receive a good chunk of these funds in the form of advertising dollars leading up to the November 2010 election.

Exactly right.

They are wasting their money contesting this seat; in the meantime Wilson can certainly loan excess funds to Republican challengers in blue dog districts.

Reminds me of the lefts attempts to unseat former senator Jessie Helms of North Carolina.

I don’t believe the left has raised that much......

I don't see a reason to doubt it.

Miller, a former Iraq war veteran, has raised more than $1 million for his 2010 rematch with Wilson, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Miller HAS NOT raised a million bucks in the last 72 hours. As this article and others have noted, Miller has raised $1,000,000 since November 2008. According to the link from American Thinker to this site, by some quick addition using my handy dandy calculator he has raised roughly $525,000 since the JSC.

And since the total (listed on that site) in donations for the current 2010 campaign is $891,645 it's clear that the $891,645 total is since November and the linked list of $525,000 is the 72 hours since the JSC. This list is surely 24 hours behind which would explain Miller supposively having added another $110,000 to have a $1 million war chest in total.

Bottom line: Miller HAS NOT reaped more in campaign $ than Wilson since the JSC and that false impression has been made by deceptively listing what Wilson has reaped since the JSC vs. what Miller has reaped since November 2008 and trying to paint it as the same time frame. In fact Wilson is on his way to doubling Miller's take since the JSC. It's simple addition you can do for yourself.

Don’t underestimate them. Howard Dean got as far as he did in ‘04 on the basis of relatively small internet donations.
