Protests Over Obama Health Reform

Protesters are angry at what they say is reckless public spending

Tens of thousands of people have marched from the White House to Capitol Hill in Washington to protest against Barack Obama's healthcare reforms.

The demonstrations came as the US president sought to boost support for his plans during a Minneapolis rally. Addressing a crowd of 15,000, Mr Obama said he refused to accept no change on his top domestic priority. He said he would not allow special interests to "use the same old tactics to keep things the way they are". "I will not accept the status quo. Not this time. Not now," Mr Obama said in the democratic-leaning state, which has one of the country's smallest numbers of uninsured residents.

'Taxed to death' But in Washington protesters attacked Mr Obama's administration for what it called out-of-control spending - on healthcare, the stimulus packages and the bailout of the banking and car industries.

Mr Obama said he will not allow special interests to dominate the debate Healthcare in the US costs $2.2tn a year, or 16% of the country's GDP - nearly double the OECD average. The protestors insist that spending tax dollars on a government-run health insurance option will increase inflation and lead the country to economic ruin.

"Born free, taxed to death," one protester's sign read while another, held up by an immigrant from Ukraine, said: "I had enough of socialism in the USSR." The march - co-ordinated by the conservative grouping Freedomworks, a grassroots movement calling for lower taxes and smaller government - brought together protesters from across different states.

I don’t know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway —
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I’m against it.

Your proposition may be good
But let’s have one thing understood —
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it,
I’m against it.

I’m opposed to it —
On general principles I’m opposed to it!

Chorus: He’s opposed to it!
In fact, in word, in deed,
He’s opposed to it!

For months before my son was born,
I used to yell from night till morn,
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And I’ve kept yelling since I commenced it,
I’m against it!

The BBC doesn’t know how to count. There were 2 million on the mall according to ABC (who hated to report that). By the look of the pictures, it was probably alot more.

There were several thousand at the Federal Bldg in Los Angeles. It was one heck of a party! And the Lefties didn’t counter!

Thanks for the straw man argument thinly veiled behind you satire.

I appreciate the effort, but it kind of betrays your disdain and ignorance of conservative thought. Perhaps you want to disguise your views better so you don't actually have to defend them...because experience suggests liberals fair very poorly in honest debate.

And welcome to FR.

And a million men showed up at the Million Man March? Any numbers for that one? More importantly, has any one noticed any results from their theme?

“Mr Obama said he will not allow special interests to dominate the debate “

Special interests like the spontaneous gathering of representatives of the majority of the grass roots Americans, getting off their duffs and going to Washington for the first time in their lives because a Communist President is trying to force Socialized Medicine on us all (except the politicians, of course).

Dude!, its a song from DuckSoup sung by Groucho Marx
playing a politician in the film. Your arrogant presumptions
have led you astray and caused divisions where none existed.
As a comment to you, this commenting/reply stuff can be taken to nonhealthy extremes.

Exactly, more specifically he views like the tax paying producers who love God and country as a “special interest”.

Find the aerial view of LBJ’s inauguration when there was hard numbers. Then look at Saturday’s march. Saturday’s turnout dwarfed the LBJ event.
