Republican state Sen. Scott Brown says hes running for the late Edward Kennedys Senate seat in Massachusetts.
In remarks prepared for delivery Saturday, Brown says the state needs an independent thinker in Washington, noting its all-Democratic Congressional delegation.

I don’t know if it is foolishness, optimism over the tea parties or a reading of the anger and malaise among the sanity-based citizens here in Massachusetts (insert joke about the miniscule size of that group here if you must), but I think it is possible for a reasonably conservative politician to win here as senator. The mood you see at the march in Washington is present in Massachusetts, too. The liberals, like bratty children, just make their presence known by being loud and obnoxious. The silent majority is often...well, silent.
Yes, I believe in miracles.
Hopefully the national GOP will throw some of the money they would have given Andy Card at Brown. If I were Brown I wouldn’t hold my breath though....
Scott’s a solid fiscal and national security conservative. He’s pro life too... Still active in the Massachusetts National Guard. Good family man. Daughter was a finalist on American Idol. Wife’s a Boston TV anchor/reporter.
I don’t think he’ll win. But he could put a scare in the Dems. His oppoenent will be Martha Coakley - current AG.
But Massachusetts is just too infested with liberals and union hacks.
Our accountant/financial advisor is challenging Delahunt for Congress. He’s very Conservative and feels it’s time for real citizens to step up to the plate.
If Curt Schilling runs as an independent, he and Brown will be competing for the same bloc of voters.
Delahunt’s CD is the least heavily Dem in the state, so your accountant’s run may not necesarily be quixotic. I wish him luck.

I don’t think Schilling will be running, but if he does I hope that Brown drops out after winning the GOP nomination and that the party leaves the slate blank. Either Brown or Schilling have an outside chance of winning if he’s the only conservative running (Schilling’s upside is probably higher, as is his downside), but if both Brown and Schilling run the Democrat would be guaranteed the victory.
Hey, they’ve repeatedly voted for Republican governors and some of the Senate challengers have come close. Could happen. Brown is certainly a good-looking candidate, but he’s also a local boy who went to good local schools (Tufts and BC Law) and he’s put in his time as a state senator.
Steve Lynch. Pro-life commie.
Done deal.
“Sorta” pro-life commie. His pro-life ratings haven’t been great the last couple years.
I hope Brown would be a big enough man to do that if Schilling got in.
Schllling seems very iffy about. I’d wager he gets off the pot.
I hope I’m wrong.
Brown is our best candidate if Schilling does not run.
We’re counting on towns like Chatham, Cohasset and Deluxbury.
He’s also pro-marriage protection.
“I hope Brown would be a big enough man to do that if Schilling got in.”
It may be that Scott Brown doesn’t expect Curt Schilling to run.
Agreed!
If Curt’s goning to run, he’s keeping REAL quiet. Curt’s poll results from last week were discouraging though.
Sen. Brown runs, hopefully makes a good showing, loses with pride and runs for another office down the road. Treasurer, perhaps? AG?
Brown actually winning would be even beter. Normally, it would be impossible in MA. But special elections tend to have unusual turnout. In addition, the political climate is turning our way. You might remember the near-election of Steve Pearce to Congress in 1991?
