A Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Presidency?
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/11/09 | Bill Kristol

The single most damning story about President Obama so far is one we know courtesy of his national security adviser, Jim Jones. Visiting the newly installed military commanders in Afghanistan in late June, Jones told General Stanley McChrystal that if he requested more troops any time soon, Obama would have a "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" (i.e., "What the f--") moment. Jones then, in an interview, made the claim--denied by everyone else involved--that military leaders had agreed that when the president earlier sent 21,000 troops to Afghanistan, "there would be a year from the time the decision was made before they would ever come back and ask for any more."

Okay. Jones is in way over his head. And, we gather, he'll likely be gone by Christmas. But it's still a remarkable statement by the president's national security adviser. Afghanistan is a war Obama supported repeatedly as a candidate. One of his first acts as president was to recommit to success in the struggle. Yet Jones was willing to portray his boss, both privately and publicly, as timid and fearful of tough decisions.

What's worrisome is that most of Obama's senior advisers seem to be on the same page as Jones. We hear that Rahm Emanuel is counseling the president to figure out how to get out of Afghanistan rather than how to win. He's convinced that this is Vietnam redux, and that his job is to prevent Obama from going down the path of LBJ. The president's grand poobah for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, who was shaped by his experiences as a young foreign service officer in Vietnam, has weighed in behind the scenes against McChrystal's coming request for more troops. Meanwhile, congressional Democrats, led by House speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Carl Levin, are

We are in a real pickle with this wobbly marxist pretending to be CIC. But the Generals better know that and act accordingly.

It's up to Barack Obama. Surely he doesn't want to be remembered for a Whisky Tango Foxtrot presidency?

He'll be remembered for a Foxtrot Uniform Bravo Alpha Romeo presidency.

At least he hasn’t resurrected the DRAFT yet. Oh, I forgot, that is exactly what happened during the Vietnam era that I happened to live through. Obama’s Vietnam with the same 60’s retread radicals who protested and said “hell no, we won’t go” and It’s 1,2,3, what are we fighting for, don’t ask me I don’t give a damn, my next stop is Vietnam...

I remember some veterans telling me similar stories about their experiences in VietNam at the time. It’s as if history is repeating itself.

Gee Guys!

I have no doubt that Zer0 will convene his Czars: without Cabinet, without Congress;

To make a decision on how the United States might possibly remain a power on this earth while piss-ant rock throwing countries, with the rock throwers hiding behind their IED clad women and children,

Will grind our military into the ground in a war denounced by ABCNBCCBSmsnbcCNN, lest someone may get killed!

NOTE............Insiders in DC are now saying openly that: Bold face, out and out lies about what was said or promised by various leaders (private, public, military, etc.) to the WH is getting to be a REGULAR thing with this administration. This has never happened, ever, with any President. These are not miscommunications. They are just lies.

AARP’s “support” of the specific HR 3200 Health Reform bill was an example of this, but only a small and relatively minor one. It just had never happened with such a big player and they never expected it to be so completely out of line with their spoken words and clear written statements of their actual (more nuanced) position. And, it’s getting worse, not better.

These 0 folks are not cowed by witnesses, notes or historical record. They lie as if driven to it pathologically, and it is getting in the way of any kind of rational communications with any group or person. It is now beyond rookie mistakes, and beyond excuses.

Watch this one, because the effects of this can only be very very bad for the nation.

He’s already trying to make it a Vietnam with his ROEs. A sure way to sway public sentiment against the fight.

They are worried about having another Viet Nam.

What makes something a “Viet Nam”?

You allow your enemy a refuge where he can rest, refit, and launch attacks from.

You impose rules of engagement on your troops that make it difficult to fight.

And, having won the war, despite everything, you declare victory, walk away and hand it all back to your enemy without a fight. Bloodbath ensues, but if the news doesn’t cover it, it doesn’t get into the high school history books and no one cares.

And finally, Hollywood cranks out movie after movie in which grizzled old ex-soldiers go back and, this time, really kick some butt. Stallone might be young enough for one last go, then they’ll have to get someone else I think. And movie after movie where grizzled old ex-soldiers suffer psychic distress caused by all the wicked things they did. Oliver Stone probably still has half a dozen of those left in him.

Yep! Romney/Pawlenty/McPaine/Hucksterbee/Snow/Collins/Lugar/"Bennett/Hatch/Voinovich to name a few who fit that description....

Except that Bob Dole, at least, was an American war hero.
