The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president's health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants.
The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson "You lie" outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the "exchange," as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants -- which is the current state of play. Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans -- bill language or no bill language.
Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.
Here, the administration also concedes that hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants.
The bullet points sent tonight by the White House:
Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate.
Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps. Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don't participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to t

Maybe no one will notice Joe Wilson was correct.
Most people already know Joe is correct. ;-/
By law, they will still be able to go to the ER and receive free treatment.
If Barry Dunham-Soetoro did not intend to include illegal aliens in the free health insurance/health care scam, the “Immigration” lobbyists would be all over capital hill crying to any TV camera they could find, and there would be 100s of 1000s of illegal aliens out rioting errr marching in the streets ...
This is such a joke,
Even if the exclusion of illegals were to pass Constitutional scrutiny, the illegals would still receive FREE medical care at our emergency rooms, at our expense!
Just say NO...
Hey, they acknowledge that private insurance is going away.
Also, since they are going to legalize every illegal immigrant, what difference does it make to them to say that illegals can't have insurance?
And since they still won't let hospitals refuse treatment, won't the illegals not having insurance just mean they will still be a burden, and we will still pay an extra thousand a year in insurance to cover the illegals, just like we do now?
Trash the entire piece of crap.
Yes and ACORN will advise them to do so accordingly.
Yes the free emergency care too...
The government requires hospitals to provide care for emergency patients in severe pain, and it will pay through Medicaid for poor persons, including illegal immigrants.) Second, the government beginning in 2013 will subsidize insurance, including private policies, for those low-income and middle-income Americans who do not qualify for Medicaid.

I have spent the last 3 days calling Senators and Representatives asking them what is going to prevent illegals from using the same fake documents they use to hold down jobs in this country from using those same documents to get health care benefts.
The silence at the other end by the staffers is deafening. It’s like, helloooo, you never realized these illegals don’t walk up to a health care provider and announce they are here illegal and want health care!
Well there you go...
Actually understanding the intent of the bill.
“Hey, they acknowledge that private insurance is going away.”
Thank you... The next big item on Zero’s agenda will be amnesty for all those undocumented workers. That’s necessary for buying the votes. So first he gets more votes because people think they get “free” health care, and then he gets the next batch from all those immigrants that he will make legal. To hell with the crappy economy and all the unemployed, they will shove amnesty down our throats next because it’s necessary for them to stay in power.
This SOB is so predictable it’s sick.
I am now required to provide my drivers license when I present my health insurance (private) card for some providers....WHY, you ask .....guess
....FRAUD....gee...wonder where it’s coming from????
And I suppose if you can show a driver’s license you are not undocumented? How many states hand out driver’s licenses to illegals?
This sounds like a signal to the Republicans to reintroduce their amendments regarding illegal aliens.
You know, the ones that were already defeated by the House rats.
Nobody know what’s in the bill. If they are talking about HR 3200, it has been published. But it is vague. There is another house plan that has not been published.
There is also a senate plan that has not been published.
What bill or plan are we talking about?
None.
They want the proposal to pass so they can write the bill after the fact.
That’s how I read it too. In fact, I read it three times, because I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
Obama is SO full of crap. Like Rush said yesterday on his show. Obama will give the illegals amnesty next year, so of course they will be able to get the health care, they will be citizens. That is Obama’s plan, to give them all amnesty then he can say “Well, they are citizens now, so they can get health care coverage too”
