In spite of unexpected public opposition, President Barack Obama continues to unflinchingly "guarantee" that he will "reform" healthcare this year. Recently, he said the Democrats will get it "done one way or another," hinting of the nuclear option. By invoking arcane rules in the Senate, the President could force through a bill with only 51 votes, instead of the required 60. Such a partisan, bully-move would eliminate the need for dissenting Democrats -- not Republicans, as the administration frames it and the media dutifully reports.
Although Obama has ample Democrat majorities, he can't even secure the necessary Democrat votes -- hence, his nationally televised exhibition to Congress.

Train wreck comin’. ‘Bama goin’ down.
To hit the reset button would be to admit he was wrong and his ego wont let him do that. ;-)
How many different names can he call this until everyone wakes up and says, “Wow, this still tastes like crap...FIRE THE COOK”!
I am not sure he can get 218 or 51 votes.
Here’s my explanation for Obama’s unwillingness to compromise on the current healthcare legislation: he can’t let down his large liberal voting block because that would be his worst possible political defeat. He must fight for them until he’s near death — until he’s close to becoming a marytr, and they must realize that that’s what he’s doing. Then, with him virtually on his deathbead, anything can happen to the healthcare legislation and he’ll retain their respect.
It is unerringly correct to dismiss out of hand any analysis of a single subject with an enumerated list of statements all attempting to define what the single word has generally been assumed to mean all along.
Reconciliation = self nuking for long-legged mack daddy
Why should he? He thinks he has a pretty good hand at getting something through.
He'd only hit reset if his polls went below 30, Democrats in Congress were deserting him in droves, and a committee of Democrat leaders paid him a visit and told him that for the sake of the party he would have to back down.
He has to pass it. Otherwise the spending spree comes to an end. If he passes it, the rats have a trillion dollars to loot and spend in four years prior to the bill being implemented, at which time there will be no money for it.
A trillion dollars in "play money" is at stake here. Of course they'll pass it, reconcilliation? No problem!
