U.S. Mint has two-bit plan for slew of new quarters

The U.S. Mint, which makes a mint from collectors buying new coins way beyond face value, announced that it's coming out with a whole bunch of new different quarter designs in coming years.

There will be 56 new quarters, in fact.

They will commemorate a national park, forest or historic site in each state and then some.

A quarter won't even pay the federal tax on a gallon of gas now. And by the time they're done issuing these new coins -- in 2021 -- Joe Biden will still be talking about shovel-ready jobs saved and Sarah Palin will be in her second White House term.

Of course, by 2021, a quarter won't be worth a dime.

All I can say is: baseball cards.

Years ago they were fun to collect. Then everybody and their brother got into the business, flooded the market, and sales went down because it all became too much to keep track of.

There will be 56 new quarters, in fact.

So they are leaving out one of the states?

I bet it's Rhode Island-- it doesn't amount to much anyway.

They minted so many of the state quarters that they will never be rare. Only rarity or precious metal content brings any gain in coin value. A lot of unsophisticated suckers paid a premium for the state quarters. I doubt the new ones will be any different.

I recall thirty years ago when a magnet would stick to an Italian coin.

We will soon be there.

Nope. Federal gasoline tax is 18.4¢ per gallon.

43 states have highter taxes than that. Ohio is at 28¢.

Sure they do. 0bama's brother uses $12 of them to live on every month.

Maybe one quarter will have George and his hut on it.
