With two shouted words during the president's speech to Congress Wednesday night, Congressman Joe Wilson cemented South Carolinas status as the geographic center of opposition to the Obama White House.
Just under nine months into the president's term, the state has emerged as a beachhead for the president's most aggressive conservative critics, a secure launching point for some of the harshest attacks on the administrations policy initiatives.
Its governor, Mark Sanford, led the charge of Republican governors against the Obama economic stimulus plan and made national headlines by arguing that the administrations excessive spending could lead to an economic collapse on the scale of Weimar Germany. Sanford, in fact, persisted in rejecting Recovery Act funding until a court ordered him to back down.

People have been asking that since the Constitutional Convention. They were on the wrong side of certain issues back then, but I gotta hand it to them. They’ve got a long history of being stubborn and cantankerous.
It’s very simple. Like my mama told me, “Don’t spit in the well, you may have to drink the water.”
This is a culmination of the ‘culture war’. The “Progressives” attempt to morally sanction Joe Wilson is indeed laughable if not pathetic!
Damn liberals can’t stand any dissent. What a bunch of arses.
To answer the question posed as title of the article-
Not a D@&#ed thing!
Somebody had to say it. Somebody had got to say it.
whats the matter with me?
i dont have much to say
feel like sneaking through the window
and im still in this old night cafe
walking to and fro beneath the moon
thats where the trucks are rolling slow
sit down on this bank of sand
and watch the river flow
I’m wondering why something must be “wrong” when people oppose Obama’s agenda. The media are so ashamedly in bed with Obama you’d think they’d be embarrassed to show their faces in public. Knee jerk hatred for “W” Bush became like a snow ball rolling down a hill for the media, it overwhelmed and consumed them. They now think that embracing anything that is the antithesis of Bush must be a good thing. So sad, so very sad for the shallow dupes who work in the msm, and for America.
John C Calhous, C.C. Pinkney, Joe Wilson...a great bunch of patriots IMO.
The statement should be rephrased: “Thank God for South Carolina!”
They sort of leave out that SC was first to secede and the one to suffer the most pure hatred and terror at the end.
South Carolina also has a fairly lengthy history of sending that RINO Lindsey Grahamnesty back to the Senate....that one has puzzled me for years. 'Course, the same thing could be said for New York, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota and a few others when one considers who they keep sending back to Congress......
Yahoo News is just another state run media organ. I don’t read it.
The better question is “what the matter with the other 49 states?”
There's a few folks in Georgia who might not agree with that.....
Yeah, that is weird.
Georgia got it bad. Very bad. But they saved their greatest wrath for SC because it had led the secession movement.
