Texas governor sends Rangers to Mexico border

HOUSTON - Special teams of Texas Rangers will be deployed to the Texas-Mexico border to deal with increasing violence because the federal government has failed to address growing problems there, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday.

"It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they've ever played before," Perry said of the Department of Public Safety's elite investigative unit.

The forces, dubbed "Ranger recon" teams, are the latest effort "to fill the gap that's been left by the federal government's ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico," he said.

"They'll be deployed to high-traffic, high-crime areas along the border," he said. "They'll give us boots on the ground, put people in these hot spots no matter what or where they may exist."

They'll be deployed to high-traffic, high-crime areas along the border," he said. "They'll give us boots on the ground, put people in these hot spots no matter what or where they may exist."

Perry said the effort also would focus on remote areas where farmers and ranchers have complained of being overrun by smugglers and gangs from Mexico in numbers that also overwhelm local law enforcement and border patrol officers.

"Washington is shortchanging them, not giving them the support they need," Perry said. "As a result, we're having to dedicate our resources to deal with the challenges we have along the Texas-Mexico border and ensuing issues that porous border has created all across state of Texas."...He said the state would pick up the tab of $110 million, allocated by the Legislature in the past two sessions....

Someone, at least, is paying attention. Kay Bailey Hutchison criticized the move. I expect El Paso to be overrun with Texas Rangers.

Is there a pending invasion from Oklahoma?

KBH had a few really nasty little comments about RP in the story posted in the DMN. However, Gov RP tossed right back in her lap.

I used to really like Kay Bailey Hutchison. The key words there are ‘used to’.

That is going to be a very, very entertaining race. She was the one who placed language in the DHS appropriations bill that delayed construction of the fence in Texas. So, as far as I am concerned, they have taken sides in the debate over whether to guard our border, or just make nice noises about it.

If they keep doing things right, there is a pending invasion from the whole rest of the country.

Excellent! Texas is beginning to form its own Army. Good for them. It may come in handy when they eventually vote to succeed from the Union.

I hope the Rangers have some good ROE (Read: Rules of Engagement) The only one being; Close with the enemy to kill capture and/or destroy him using close combat and fire and maneuver.

GO TEXAS!

Well.....he IS campaigning. This problem should have never been allowed to escalate beyond control in the first place.

I can't stand KBH......but Rick Perry has been very negligent in this area.

I’m a resident of Kansas now, but was raised in Texas where most of my family resides now. My parents and most everyone I talk to down there plan to vote for Rick Perry. Since KBH has been found out to be pro-choice, I sincerely doubt she will become the next gov.

Kay or Rick? It's like choosing between a douche bag and a turd sandwich. They both suck.

Gee Gov. Goodhair, thanks for sending the Rangers to the border. Why did it take 5 years?

They sent a baseball team? Shoot, I’ll bet they’re challenging the Mexicans to a baseball game.

That is a pretty disgusting analogy. Possibly you prefer Kinky as guv, a witty entertainer who is even less qualified for the governor’s job than Zero is for POTUS. Did you also support the MN selection of Stuart Smalley for the Senate?

KBH has spent the last 17 years attending Washington DC wine and cheese partys and practicing the arts of comity and capitulation. She is the last person Texas needs in Austin. Kinky need not apply.

That is a pretty disgusting analogy.

They are two disgusting people. FYI, the analogy was a sarcastic reference to a South Park episode. Which was about elections where you have two losers, as we have with the Texas Gov. race.

As far as Perry goes? He is am joke. He has very little skills at anything, he tried to FORCE Texan females to be shot up with Gardisil and he continues to push the theft of property ala the TTC.

I'm glad you got my point. Both Kay and Rick are disgusting options!

Kinda sucky that these two bozo’s is all I have to choose from. I’ll have to go with RP and hold my nose. Sorta like McCain with hair.
