President Obama brought to earth
Telegraph [UK] ^ | 9/07/09

Just seven months into his presidency, the stardust has faded from Barack Obama so completely that it is hard to recall the extraordinary euphoria that greeted his election, both in the United States and across the world. In his defence, he can claim that he took office at the height of a once-in-a lifetime economic meltdown and also inherited intractable foreign policy problems in Afghanistan, Iran and the Middle East. Yet that is part of the job specification: much of a President's work is crisis management.

In fact, it is not in these areas that his leadership has been found most wanting. It is in domestic policy, and in particular the healthcare reforms that he wanted to make the signature legislation of his first term, that he has disappointed. He was determined not to replicate the disaster of Bill Clinton's proposals, when an enormously detailed blueprint was drawn up in the White House only to be chewed up and spat out by Congress. A timid President Obama has lurched in the opposite direction by asking Congress to write the legislation for him. The result has been a humiliation.

The result has been a humiliation.

When then-candidate Obama "denounced" the endorsement of him by Louis Farrakhan, he did so out of political expediency, not out of principle.

When Obama left Jeremiah Wright's church, he did so out of political expediency, not out of princple. (Obama had only days before said about Wright, "I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother.")

When Obama forced Van Jones out of his administration, he did so out of political expediency, not out of prinicple.

Obama did not distance himself from Wright, Farrakhan, and Jones because he believes it is the principled thing to do. His and their supporters understand and accept this.

Though not for reasons asserted by the Telegraph, the result is indeed a humiliation. If they expected "leadership" from the President, they do not realize that leadership requires principle.

All of those problems were known before the election. Obama stood up and said "I can handle these problems". And the majority of voters believed that.

You can't let him off the hook and say "Well, of course he's had a rough time! I mean, look at the problems he's facing!" Nope. He was hired for exactly these tasks. And he has failed.

Good analogy, but I would alter it to be the doll in the window that the kids soon lose interest in, yet are now more interested in playing with the box that it came in.

His leadership is non-existent. He is found to be wanting in virtually everything he does (except how to enjoy vacations...).

Euphoria? Hardly. Oh America...what have you done?

Yes, like the first time after they take it home and it craps on the floor.

America ended up with the whole litter and now we have unelected czars in all corners stinking up the country.

Yes, BO’s Wednesday speech was his last gasp and it failed to move ANY support to his cause. It showcased his desperation and persisted in his litany of lies about House bill 3200 and his overall objectives.

He hasn’t been brought to Earth. That will happen when he no longer occupies the White House.

Yeah, and Bush had such an easy time of it. After all, all he had to deal with is one tiny indicent in New York and some minor problems after that. Nothing to compare with what poor Obama has had to deal with. It's hard work to spend trillions of tax payer dollars, give the guy a break.

So much riding on this speech and all anyone could talk about afterward was the "you lie" comment.

It's like the Greek Column speech, undone by McCain naming Sarah Palin as his veep the next day.

This empty suit has proven to be just what he is “An empty suit”. He has fallen to earth because he was deified by the leftist press as being super human based solely on the fact that he was “BLACK”. it has become eminently clear that he is not only not a super human but a rather mediocre thinker with a gift for gab. Barack Obama is what they accused Geo. Bush of being......mostly talk an no sustenance.

I think the world collectively have just realized that being black has not made him anything special, he has not shown any prophetic guidance, no original heart felt compassion, and mostly no comprehension of portraying the image and stature as a leader of the most powerful nation on earth.

A real world leader does not become overly possessed with a singular goal like Obama does, his actions center all around healthcare, no indication he has a clue on how to view the world in large, and frankly I suspect he cannot accept anything other than compulsive obsession.

We won’t have to wait that long. 2010 will bring this entire nonsense to a stop.

“In his defence, he can claim that he took office at the height of a once-in-a lifetime economic meltdown and also inherited intractable foreign policy problems in Afghanistan, Iran and the Middle East.”

What really steams me about this logic is the total blindness to the FACT that the democrats CAUSED the economic meltdown...FANNIE MAE was the first shoe to fall and they CAUSED it.

Obama would have LOST Iraq if he had been president the last 8 years....he did NOT inherit ANYTHING...he helped cause it by either doing NOTHING (voting present), or fueling our dangerous debt.

Brought to earth?

The loon started lower than a worm in a six foot trench, and he’s heading for the main septic tank.

He’ll be among friends and associates when he gets to the tank.
