KENOSHA -- A jewelry store owner who was faced with a man trying to rob him at gunpoint reached for his own gun and shot the suspect Wednesday. The suspect is believed to be from Zion.
Kenosha Police Department officials said that two men with partially concealed faces entered the Jewelry Exchange at 2400 52nd St. around 12:30 p.m. and confronted the 55-year-old owner.
Police said one suspect pointed a handgun at the owner, but the owner drew his own handgun from under the desk where he was sitting and shot the suspect once in the chest. The two men fled without taking anything.
Police found the wounded suspect laying on the grass next to a curb on the 2400 block of 51st Street. He was conscious and there was a .44 magnum revolver on the ground next to him. He was taken to Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center where he was in stable condition. He was expected to undergo surgery, police said.
The suspect is 29-years-old and is under police guard at the hospital. Police said he was on parole through the Illinois Department of Corrections for theft, auto theft and a drug offense. Police believe he is a Zion resident.
The second suspect escaped in a waiting vehicle, described as possibly a green Dodge Ram van, that was parked in the 5100 block of 25th Avenue. The second suspect is described as 20-years-old, wearing shorts, a long-sleeve black shirt and a baseball cap, and was carrying a dark backpack. There was no description of the getaway driver.
Anyone with information concerning the second suspect and the getaway driver can call Kenosha Police Department at (262) 605-5200 or Crime Stoppers at (262) 656-7333.
Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
But not impossible, especially if it was stolen...
Stolen no doubt.....what the vermin can lay their hands on.
Don’t you just hate when that happens. Here you’ve planned your robbery for, well, at least several seconds, and then something like this happens! Damn, you forgot your bullet-proof vest!
BTW, Zion is in North-Eastern Illinois, not in Southern Wisconsin. The perps crossed the state line to commit the crime.
He’s labeled a “suspect” when he’s got a mask on and pointing a 44 magnum at you demanding your money and jewelry? I’d say it’s safe to call him a robber at that point. Since the robber survived I think the owner needs to get himself a 44 for next time.
“The second suspect is described as 20-years-old, wearing shorts, a long-sleeve black shirt and a baseball cap, and was carrying a dark backpack.”
Hmmmmm, every 20 yr old male could fit that description. We could narrow it down if we were told what color he was........but wait, not telling us what color he is actually tells us what color he is. Tyrone, the cops are coming!
;^)
The guy was on parole. He is ineligible to legally purchase a handgun, or any kind of firearm.
This is Wisconsin. Expect the store owner to be put in jail. That kind of nonsense isn’t allowed there.
Now I know the source for calling them ‘cheese heads’.
What are they talking about they got away with nothing, one of them stole a bullet from the shop owner.....
Hey Illinois (and neighbors), how's that gun control thingy workin' out for ya?
Does that make this a "Zionist Conspiracy"?
Illinois politics sucks and our GOP isn't up to the task of reclaiming the state. Even after McKenna's resignation. Does that answer your question?
I used to live in Kenosha. It’s essentially a liberal union town, but the folks can be a bit rough-and-tumble, they’re pro-2nd Amendment, and they don’t like being screwed with by scumbags from south of their border. Zion, which began its existence as a Christian settlement, has over the ensuing years morphed into a largely (ahem) “ethnic” community. BTW, it’s the hometown of Gary Coleman. The difference between Zion and neighboring (and far more affluent) Winthrop Harbor couldn’t be more stark.
one of them stole a bullet from the shop owner.....
:) :) :)
No, he gave it to him freely. :)
