Flying home from London, where the subject of formal debate on the 70th anniversary of World War II had been whether Winston Churchill was a liability or asset to the Free World, one arrives in the middle of a far more acrimonious national debate right here in the United States.
At issue: Should Barack Obama be allowed to address tens of millions of American children, inside their classrooms, during school hours?
Conservative talk-show hosts saw a White House scheme to turn public schools into indoctrination centers where the socialist ideology of Obama would be spoon-fed to captive audiences of children forced to listen to Big Brother -- and then do assignments on his sermon.
The liberal commentariat raged about right-wing paranoia.
Yet Byron York of the Washington Examiner dug back to 1991 to discover that, when George H.W. Bush went to Alice Deal Junior High to speak to America's school kids, the left lost it.
"The White House turned a Northwest Washington junior high classroom into a television studio and its students into props," railed the Washington Post. Education Secretary Lamar Alexander was called before a House committee. The National Education Association denounced Bush. And Congress ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate.
Obama's actual speech proved about as controversial as a Nancy Reagan appeal to eighth-graders to "Just say no!" to drugs.
Yet, the episode reveals the poisoned character of our politics.

Almost a year ago, I posted that this guy’s theory was laughable. How wrong I was. It seems that we are on a path to divide up the country and as sad as that makes me, I am at the point where I would prefer living in a smaller republic that values freedom and liberty.
Let the libs have their ‘space’ along with the crime, disease, and every freakshow fool that they seem to attract. I don’t want to move out of my beloved South, but if I have to, so be it.
Before the war, week after week after week after week, we were told lie after lie after lie after lie. - Senator Ted Kennedy Senate Floor Remarks October 16, 2003
Where was the outrage then?
WE believe that too and would like to get further away the interstate corridor that carries traffic north out of Atlanta.
Even though we are 60+ miles away, it feels too close when you think of crisis, evac and gov’t giving orders.
Wyoming sounds good!
AMEN!
If you look at how things break down geographically (exclude NC, VA and FL voting Dem last Nov) The Confederacy is still intact after the war ended ~145 years ago. You won't have to move out of your beloved South. Will the South accept some like-minded Yankees?
Between the South and Midwest, there are enough sea/ocean ports, untapped fuel reserves (oil, shale oil, coal) and food producing areas for a new/old American nation to thrive.
One more thing, the new/old American nation needs to secure the Mexican border militarily. That should be the first order of business.
Well...here's when it comes apart....

Federal Gov’mt remittance to the states..of our and our children's tax monies and debt obligation is the largest source of state revenue for all 50 states. When the wheels come off that bus....and you can bet the lug nuts are loose at this point-that’s the end of the line.
My FRiend, you are equating GA,SC,NC,AL,MS,VA with NY,CT,RI,MA,VT. Please don't do that...
GA's bill to be introduced to prevent obamacare from being forced on us could be the first step in some process that breaks this thing wide open.
I have pondered the the âunrepairableâ question for years. I read about all the polls and articles regarding the question I can find. I do think the breach is going to be between citified and country (red and blue if you will). Oversimplification but the mindset is the issue. The citifed have become almost so insulated that they forget that all the food, power and many other things come from the people they despise in the country. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Don't worry; the South will be a bastion of calm during the coming Hard Times. Folks will be scrambling to get into Texas from the liberal areas and their attendant crime, race hatred, and cultural malaise.
Texans have a lot of common sense, and the more I talk with them the safer I feel. Many of them are actively preparing for a conflict, storing food and making bug-out plans. Even libtards here display a kernel of common sense. All that gives me a bit more optimism about my family's survivability.
I love Texas and the South. The values I see here are way more in line with my own personal values and beliefs. So as to your above comment, I will stay and fight for my community, because for once I live in a community worth fighting for.
How can you take someone seriously when two out of three of his heroes are traitors?
It sounded better in the original German.
Interesting...I just heard Rush L. say that he thinks we are two or three countries now instead of one.
You think Buchanan is a Nazi?
Did you ever listen to Culture War speech? Apparently not, because you’re lookin’ silly.
That’s right!
Damn straight.
There is a bill like that that has been introduced in the MI legislature. Justin Amash was the guy that introduced it. There are still some people left in this state that don't drink the statist flavor-ade.
You said the Culture War speech at the Republican National Convention sounded better in German.
I repeat: You think Buchanan is a Nazi? Did you ever listen to the Culture War speech? Apparently not, because youre lookin silly.
Now you look like a trained chicken at the state fair.
