I thought (unborn) human infants didn’t have any rights.

Does this guy have children? Has he observed the development of a human child?
It is a wonderful thing to behold.

OH, yeah, Jeremy Bentham is
exactly the sort of model of sanity that I would solicit for an opinion . . . .
His will specified that his body be preserved in a glass case so that he could attend all the board meetings of University College, London. His head eventually fell off (that's it between his feet) so they made a wax one to take its place.

An adult dog or horse may well be more “rational” than an infant human, but I defy most Democrats to debate any one of them.

This is basically the same position of Peter Singer, who is called by many ethicists as the greatest ethicists living today. As you would rightly assume, Singer is an atheist, and he does not believe that human beings are “special.” Bentham influenced John Stuart Mill. I suppose that in their view, as utilitarians, we will have to consider the happiness of all creatures, which would mean that the happiness of insects would supersede that of humans.
