The Myth of World Health Organization health care rankings
WHO press release via Photius ^ | June 21st, 2000 | WHO

Posted on 09/10/2009 2:57:21 PM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

The World Health Organization has carried out the first ever analysis of the world’s health systems. Using five performance indicators to measure health systems in 191 member states, it finds that France provides the best overall health care followed among major countries by Italy, Spain, Oman, Austria and Japan.

The findings are published today, 21 June, in The World Health Report 2000 – Health systems: Improving performance.

The U. S. health system spends a higher portion of its gross domestic product than any other country but ranks 37 out of 191 countries according to its performance, the report finds. The United Kingdom, which spends just six percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on health services, ranks 18th . Several small countries – San Marino, Andorra, Malta and Singapore are rated close behind second- placed Italy.

...

In designing the framework for health system performance, WHO broke new methodological ground, employing a technique not previously used for health systems. It compares each country’s system to what the experts estimate to be the upper limit of what can be done with the level of resources available in that country. It also measures what each country’s system has accomplished in comparison with those of other countries.

WHO’s assessment system was based on five indicators: overall level of population health; health inequalities (or disparities) within the population; overall level of health system responsiveness (a combination of patient satisfaction and how well the system acts); distribution of responsiveness within the population (how well people of varying economic status find that they are served by the health system); and the distribution of the health system’s financial burden within the population (who pays the costs).

I put in bold the words you will want to pay attention to.

What we have here is not a ranking of the world's healthcare systems.

What we have here is a ranking of the world's socialist systems.

Now granted, they do take into account for some healthcare issues. But the quality of socialism seems to be just as big of an issue, if not bigger, than the quality of health.

With all this talk of healthcare going on, I figured this was a good thing to repost. In this light, reposts do have value.

Especially given the majority media that we have, people are gonna miss this stuff.

This list where the US comes in 37th and france comes out on top, we conservatives should be happy about this. It means our socialism isn't as good as france's.(circa 2000)

Thank you. Clearly there was some kind of distortion here in evaluating US healthcare. This explains it.

It is safe to assume everything Barack Hussein Obama says (including his name) is a lie. You just need a little time to prove it.

They didn’t evaluate cancer survivability rates either.

--------This is from nine years ago?-----------

Yes. But the drive by media and liberals routinely will use this information as if it means anything.

This talking point no matter how many times they say it and act as if it's rock solid, is very very easy to debunk.

Using the WHO's own words.

Here, watch this. I went to google news to search for world health organization. It doesn't take very long for you to come across some liberal news outlet, editorial, or otherwise which references this WHO agitprop. I got the following op/ed from google news.

Sure, I posted something from 9 years ago. Now look at this from yesterday. September 9th, 2009. It's not a particularly long read, this is toward the bottom.

=========== As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported recently, a study from the World Health Organization nine years ago rated the health systems of 191 nations and found the United States coming in at 37. That doesn't measure the sophistication of the most advanced U.S. health care, but it's also no reason to think that chanting "We're No. 1" is a defensible health care position.

Of course, the World Health Organization isn't an American political candidate.================

Of course, the WHO is wrong. But this kind of propaganda is why I posted.

This is an easy fight to win, you just have to know what you're looking for.

These studies do not seem to take into account demographics. For example, our system is flooded with Third World arrivals who have virtually destroyed the Emergency Rooms here in Southern California. They quite typically get Medicaid(Medi-Cal here in California) Which puts further upward pressure on health care prices i.e. increased demand results in increased doctor fees for the rest of us.

Then why do the worlds big shots all come here when they have an owie?

Yeah, they don’t take into account for genetics either. It’s not racist to note, but it does fall along racial lines to note that different races live longer just based on the DNA.

But that’s more technical.

Using the WHO’s own words to discredit this particular talking point is just plain fun. It frustrates the liberals incredibly because they can’t refute it.

With the DNA thing, they can play the race card which will make you angry and they have fun.

WHO’s FoolingWho? The World Health Organization’s Problematic Ranking of Health Care Systems Those who cite the WHO rankings typically present them as an objective measure of the relative performance of national health care systems. They are not. TheWHOrankings depend crucially on a number of underlying assumptions— some of them logically incoherent, some characterized by substantialuncertainty, and some rooted in ideological beliefs and values that not everyone shares. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9236

They should compare the health care of the lowest 10% income of each country. i’m betting USA comes out first.
