At Bush's 2006 State of the Union speech, Democrats interrupted his speech to applaud and cheer their obstruction of Bush's proposal to reform Social Security.

Fast-forward to about 45:50 to see it. And at 46:05, take careful note of who you see in the lower left corner of the frame.

Hint: he didn't vote "present" this time.

I’ll bet that if you were alive during the Revolutionary War you would have scolded the patriots for sneaking around hiding behind trees and firing at the British instead of marching in formation properly and politely like they did.

Our liberty and lives are at risk here. I am not worried about any perceived respect given to plaster and marble. I’m more concerned about my children and grandchildren who will have to live as slaves under this tyranny. If a few protocols have to be broken in the process so be it. Better than a few million heads in civil war.

When I hear people speaking like you are I fear that you have no real grasp of the seriousness of the situation.

I agree, he should not have apologized. Obama hasn't met with the republicans since April? I believe. He shuts them down, dumps all over them, treats THEM with no respect...the damned media refuse to print their comments, and they are told to shut up and sit down. And then Mr.Wilson speaks up and calls obama a liar in front of everyone. Well, that's too damned bad for obama. We can and we must speak out when continuous lies are perpetuated by this communist administration. Speak out, speak up and keep the pressure going..use their tactics AGAINST them.

Joe Wilson is a hero. I would pay to hear him speak.

There is nothing wrong in challenging our leaders — they are not kings or god-men.

Go to UK or Australia and hear how the government is harshly and loudly ridiculed by the opposition in parliament every day. It is entertaining to watch the rhetorical brawls. It is only in our system that we put on this fake “be nice” attitude.

Everybody knows that O is a liar. Lying is what Democrats do. Remember how Clinton was praised for being an “extraordinary” liar? For these people truth is constructed by those in power. They are in power, so if illegals can get coverage indirectly all the president has to do is assert the opposite and it is marvelous.

"Obama is correct," says the Center for Immigration Studies. "The legislation states illegals won't get the affordability credits [to pay for healthcare]. But Cong Joe Wilson's comment is correct, in that the normal enforcement mechanism was excluded from the bill."

Ohaha wants it both ways: The final legislation will SAY no coverage for illegals BUT it will also prevent checking on the citizenship status of any person seeking healthcare. That's what prompted Cong Joe Wilson---he knows Dems voted down these provision in committee. The end game is that vote-hungry Dems will kneel in obeisance and suck-up to illegals b/c they NEED those votes to stay in power. Read on.

Government-Run Healthcare: A Prescription For Failure; Paying The Price For Illegal Care
IBD Exclusive Series | August 21, 2009
FR Posted by Kaslin

Democrats are right that uncompensated emergency care for the uninsured is driving up costs. What they don't say is it's illegal immigrants who are bankrupting ERs, and the federal government is encouraging them.

Last decade, the Clinton administration added teeth to a little-known Health and Human Services Department regulation mandating that hospitals provide emergency treatment even to illegals. Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, or EMTALA, hospitals can't ask for a patient's immigration status or ability to pay prior to delivering treatment. They also can't keep such uninsured patients waiting, even if their problem isn't an emergency. Nor can they discharge them until they're fully stabilized and have safe transportation. More, hospitals must post EMTALA signs in Spanish and English.

The law isn't limited to ERs. Hospitals must accept illegals at any facility on campus — including outpatient clinics and doctor's offices — located within 250 yards of the main buildings.

Hospitals end up treating uninsured illegals for the sniffles and other nonurgent care, and pass that exorbitant cost on to the insured, the Government Accountability Office has found. Resulting overcrowding leads to delays in "care for patients with true emergency needs." (Excerpt) Read more at ibdeditorials.com .....

=======================================

OBAMA CON JOB: Obama keeps saying "ObamaCare is not going to insure illegal aliens EXCEPT that the several bills floating around do not have verification provisions to make sure illegals can't apply and get benefits." And Obama surely knows (doesn't he?) that our courts have ruled repeatedly that hospitals cannot turn illegals away from emergency rooms

Vote-starved Dems will lose the Senior Citizen vote (when they realize what socialized Medicare means). So if Ohaha does get his socialized medicine atrocity passed soon, amnesty is a must. Ohaha and the Dems are greedily eyeing all those new votes----illegals here, and those pouring over our borders for yet another gov't freebie.

I’ll bet that if you were alive during the Revolutionary War you would have scolded the patriots for sneaking around hiding behind trees and firing at the British instead of marching in formation properly and politely like they did.

You appear to be conflating combat engagements with conduct on the floor of one of the single most historic and hallowed institutions in the nation.

When revolutionaries - the very ones who were at that very moment preparing to orchestrate the killing of thousands of British soldiers - went to England to petition the king and the parliament, they behaved as consummate gentlemen, not as boors.

Richard Penn, descendant of the founder of Pennsylvania, was one of the delegates who delivered the final appeal of the Olive Branch petition to the Secretary of State for the American Colonies, Lord Dartmouth, on August 21, 1775. Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were two of the petition's authors.

MOST EXCELLENT SOVERIEIGN: We your Majesty's faithful subjects of the colonies of New-hampshire, Massachusetts-bay, Rhode island and Providence plantations, Connecticut, New-York, New-Jersey, Pennsylvania, the counties of New Castle, Kent, and Sussex on Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, in behalf of ourselves and the inhabitants of these colonies, who have deputed us to represent them in general Congress, entreat your Majesty's gracious attention to this our humble petition.

I have a very clear grasp of the seriousness of the situation, but I happen to believe that it has no bearing on ancient and respected traditions of decorum.

I feel exactly the same way when the Democrats repeatedly stain the dignity of Congress and the Office of the Presidency with their conduct. President Bush didn't permit anyone to even enter the Oval Office without a jacket and tie:

“I’ll never forget going to work on a Saturday morning, getting called down to the Oval Office because there was something he was mad about,” said Dan Bartlett, who was counselor to Mr. Bush. “I had on khakis and a buttoned-down shirt, and I had to stand by the door and get chewed out for about 15 minutes. He wouldn’t even let me cross the threshold.”

As former Bush staffer Andrew Card put it, it's about respect:

Mr. Card went on to add that, while he would not criticize Mr. Obama for his appearance, “I do expect him to send the message that people who are going to be in the Oval Office should treat the office with the respect that it has earned over history.”

What should have happened is that the initial heckle should have opened a floodgate of heckles, but it must have gone against some sort of code among lawmakers, I dunno.

House Rule XVII:

1. (a) A Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner who desires to speak or deliver a matter to the House shall rise and respectfully address himself to ‘‘Mr. Speaker’’ and, on being recognized, may address the House from any place on the floor. When invited by the Chair, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may speak from the Clerk’s desk.

(b) Remarks in debate (which may include references to the Senate or its Members) shall be confined to the question under debate, avoiding personality.

5. When the Speaker is putting a question or addressing the House, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may not walk out of or across the Hall. When a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner is speaking, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may not pass between the person speaking and the Chair. During the session of the House, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may not wear a hat or remain by the Clerk’s desk during the call of the roll or the counting of ballots. A person may not smoke or use a wireless telephone or personal computer on the floor of the House. The Sergeant-at-Arms is charged with the strict enforcement of this clause.

I’m sure there are such passages in the rulebook for the British parliament and Israeli Knesset as well. But people there are not afraid to be heard.

http://alincolnblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/on-lincoln-and-political-decorum.html

And it is here that critics who draw a sharp contrast between the legacy of Lincoln and the current Republican party have a point. Mr. Wilson and others of his ilk can be as ill-mannered as they wish (though personally I think such tactics may well prove counterproductive in the long run). What they should not do, however, is press their rancor so far that it undermines public confidence in the republic itself. Little by little, the people who talk darkly of Obama’s “un-American” spirit, who claim he is destroying the foundations of the republic, who pursue silly red herrings like his birth status, and yes, those who ignore long-standing and cherished traditions which hold that there is a certain level of respect to be afforded to the President whenever he speaks—like the slow drip-drip of Chinese water torture, they are damaging democracy.

The GOP needs to grow some.
++++++++++++++++

That would have been nice - the floodgate. Now as to heckling - the dim bulbs did it to Bush during his State of the Union speech in 2005 when he stated that Social Security will be “exhausted and bankrupt by 2042,” and of course bammy called Palin’s (really) notion of ‘death panels’ ‘lies’ about 30 seconds before Joe Wilson’s statement of truth.

In the British House of Commons Prime Ministers get heckled all the time. I guess we imagine we’ve got more decorum than the Brits.

Much ado from the dim bulbs (calls for censure!?) about NOTHING. The fools. They are disrespecting us all up and down the line, having their admin officials call us a$$holes - or whatever else (and I know that was not Jones primary sin, but I’m just citing examples) and then they want to ‘censure’ Wilson for speaking his mind.

OK then. The fullness of the injustice of the Democrat party is revealing itself day after day. They are two faced hypocrites. They are liars. They are cowards.

The Republican party does indeed need to grow a set. And NOW would be a good time.

Is Article II of the US Constitution silly? I didn’t realize that.

++++++++++

If you want to talk about ignoring long time traditions, why don’t you start with Obama who is naming massive numbers of czars to government posts with no Congressional approval (where is that in Article II?)

Also, I sure hope you spoke out when Bush was heckled and had shoes thrown at him and everything else, in contradiction to established decorum.

Also such lack of decorum has seemed to not affect the Brits - has not ‘damaged’ their democracy.

Actually, it’s what Beck is doing ridicule and exposure...and it is WORKING. Now we all must be clever with it, and not stupid. But I think Wilson was actually clever. Bammy got a tiny bump out of this speech.

We need to keep the PRESSURE on. The American People, by and large oppose this health care debacle.

Of course I did. It was disgraceful, no matter the political party of the perpetrator. The shoe-throwing was an criminal assault, not a breach of decorum.

We are fighting a war. There is nothing nice or polite about that. Good that we fight the bloodless war instead of the other no?

The Republican party has been following the rules and being respectful for 8 years. What did it get George Bush except your admiration? We may lose this Republic. I’m not worried about offending Miss Manners.

When our freedom is gone will we be comforted by the fact that we took the high road?

The dems love people who think like you do. But they laugh at you behind your back.

Do not forget that while the colonies started out speaking politely it ended in bloody revolution. I’d rather be a bit ill-mannered now and avoid another bloody revolution. Which approach is more “civil”?

Yes, but they still spoke politely right up until the musket balls started flying, and even when the musket balls were flying, they still spoke politely during diplomatic meetings.

Just because the Democrats are a bunch of classless boors doesn't mean we have to stoop to their level in order to win.

You will lose the battle then. Republicans have been taking your advice for 8 years. We are losing. You are not going to win this with an etiquette book under your arm.

If the repubs were out there right now speaking in support of Wilson and saying “Yes, he is correct. The President is not being honest with the American people” the public may start to see the truth. Acting with outrage and throwing Wilson under the bus reaffirms in the public view that Wilson was the real liar and not the President. You will lose this debate in the public forum.

So if we end up with another shooting war that is okay with you as long as we used our napkins and said “Maam and Sir” first? Oh my.

It's entirely acceptable under the rules of Congressional decorum to call Obama a liar from the floor of Congress, as long as you do it eloquently, at the podium, after being recognized by the Speaker of the House.

I agree, it is foolish when Republicans are applying Congressional rules of decorum to places outside the halls of Congress.
