Speaker Pelosi on President Obamas Health Reform Speech: The Time to Act Is Now; And We Will
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement tonight after President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress on the urgent need for health insurance reform:
Tonight, President Obama made a forceful case to the Congress and the country for long-overdue health insurance reform. We are closer than ever before in history to real progress on this issue that touches the lives of every American and impacts our economy: ensuring stability and security for Americans with health insurance, and affordable coverage for those currently without.
Members of Congress heard the Presidents address tonight after weeks of lively discussion in their districts. The input of Americans informs our debate and makes clear still the work before us to explain these reforms. But as the President said: the time to act is now. And we will -- on behalf of our constituents, our health care system, and our economy.
Among the bills that are moving forward in Congress, there is broad consensus. All of these bills meet the principles President Obama laid out tonight that reform must lower costs, ensure that Americans cannot be denied coverage because they get sick, and provide access to affordable health care for all. Now we will work toward consensus on reform that will make us a healthier America, and do so in a fiscally responsible way. And we will pass this legislation this year. Those who oppose reform and support the status quo are only helping to bankrupt our economy and middle-class families.
President Obama was clear tonight that a public health insurance option is the best way to create the needed competition that will lower cost, improve quality, and preserve choice for all Americans. An overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives agrees. And the President challenged those who oppose this common-sense approachor worse yet, distort its actual role in reformto bring forward their own ideas that will achieve lower costs for Americans, promote competition and keep the insurance companies honest.
The Time to Act Is Now, let me see where did I hear that before I know it was the stimulus program speech.
Barack to Nanacy: I’m sorry I was such a dud last night, but with everything going to hell at the office, I need a *lot* of... uh, stimulating... ah, support to keep my rhetoric up....
Right after Joe Wilson yelled “liar” she was shocked and apparently couldn’t recover. But she was on camera behind Obama, so her bewildered gaze was plain as day. Suddenly she reached down between herself and Biden and lifted up a piece of paper, read it, placed it on her desk, looked up into the camera and blasted out hideous, wide-eyed grin.
I actually think she got a fax that told her to snap out of it and smile! I couldn’t help laughing at her - dear Lord, the hateful hag is dumber than a box of rocks!
Again . . .
The focus on the “Public Option” is disturbing. I fear that HR 3200 will be amended to delete the “Public Option”, and allow the Republicans to pound their chest in victory.
The elimination of a “Public Option” is of little consequence to the average consumer. The balance of the bill’s destructive aspects will fundamentally re-write the social contract between American citizen and State. In many ways - it effectively “Cancels the Constitution.”
Of course, the optimistic scenario is that the Dems retreat claiming that they won’t vote for any legislation without a public option. Right now, that seems to be the best chance of slaying this beast known as HR 3200.
The only action I want to see regarding Pelosi is seeing her perp walked straight to jail.
WTF is wrong with the morons in Kalifornia. How can one state produce so many losers in public office?
That shrew looked tired and nervous last night.
