Do some of you know the difference between a cloture vote and a vote to confirm? It doesn’t read like some do understand the difference.

He is going to be confirmed IMO with over 50 votes. There are some long time members of the Senate who do not believe a nominee of the President should be filibustered. That is what the cloture vote was on and why you see Hatch voting with the Dems.

Wait until the final vote comes out on confirming and then see who backs this guy.

Yes, it was a cloture vote. Call. Write. Fax. Scream bloody freaking murder. They haven’t confirmed him yet.

Would you mind explaining to those of us who are new to politics (not new to issues like FR, but new to politcal terminology) what the difference is between cloture and confirm, and also what are they talking about on this thread that Cornyn fought for straight up or down vote? I need to understand this. Cornyn is my senator and I’m calling his office tomorrow. We’ve supported him big time in the past and he is normally pretty conservative. I just need to understand this better for making my call.

He just sent us another fundraising letter.....
Thanks,

Yes, we understand what a cloture vote is. We also understand that without a cloture vote, there is no up/down vote. This is what was done to Miguel Estrada and others. We understand that, as usual, the pollyanna pubs turn the other cheek and “do the right thing” to give the nominee an up/down vote, which nearly always ends in confirmation, while that civility is NEVER reciprocated.

Without a cloture vote, there is no confirmation. That is the only way to stop the appointment, not through the up-down vote. With 7 pubs voting aye on cloture, it gives cover to moderate rats to vote aye on confirmation even though they voted nay on cloture. So, yes, we know the difference. But apparently there are some such as yourself who don’t understand the importance of it.
